Tesla is a great auto. A guy in town has one and has given many a ride in it.......nice, and fast!

My caution to all is to remember that the tesla, like any battery car, has a very non-green side to it. Depending on how long you keep,it and how many miles you drive it, it can be more hazardous to the environment than a Hummer. Remember, all those batteries and plastic need to be recycled some day!

:)

If you wait awhile Obama will subsidize it with other peoples money, the company will file BK and/or move to China! Another option would be to nationalize it and give it to the UAW two weeks before the election! Regardless the owner will retire wealthy and support liberal causes!

Or you could consider the facts. Tesla received a LOAN in 2010 that required them to raise matching capital to the loan. The loan was awarded as part of a program created by a law signed by President BUSH. Tesla repaid the entire loan with interest in 2013, nine years early. How socialistic.

So much for the Obama subsidy.

Maybe you'd like to link the Solyndra bankruptcy into your short screed. Again, the Solyndra loan was part of a Bush program but the loan was approved by the Obama administration. The company went bankrupt when the cost of solar panels manufactured in China plummeted due to the Chinese government providing big subsidies to solar panel manufacturers there. But it was reported as a Obama socialistic disaster.

Perhaps the loan shouldn't have been made after the Obama administration looked into the crystal ball and saw what the Chinese government was planning. The program isn't perfect, but in aggregate it has been a success. Thank you President Bush.

If you're against government subsidies, then I guess you're against all $200-$300 billion of them (total of federal, state and local governments). After all, that is all other peoples' money. We can probably agree that established companies, the Du Ponts, Verizons, AT&T, and countless other across industries shouldn't be receiving government support. But they do, lots more than Tesla, Solyndra, etc.

Of course, without government help to develop new technologies over the past decades, we'd be even farther behind other countries then we are now.

China understands that the government has to spend a lot of money to get its technology to world leadership class. If you don't think China would love to have Tesla then you're delusional. So good idea, make the United States a third-rate power so you can get another couple of bucks back on your taxes.

All cars have a non-green side. They all get recycled today and the valuable materials in the lithium batteries will certainly be recycled in the future.

No, Governor Christie did not Ban Tesla from NJ... what he did do was to ban direct sales from a Manufacturer to the Purchaser....ie a NEW car transaction must go through a Car Dealer......

Whether or not this was a good decision is a moot question,, your statement was incorrect as it stands..

Mike

It was actually Christie's appointees who implemented the ban. NJ is not the first state to do this. Amazing how the government stands in the way of the innovator.

I'm not in favor of government picking winners and losers. Especially since they have a track record of getting it wrong. Thanks for the post.

Jerry, He will most likely be happy as a clam with his fit. I have one and love it. It's a great urban car. Probably the most reliable car you can buy and fun to drive. ..... Coot

Actually Tesla has a big problem in China. It seems some guy in China already owns the Tesla name and he's holding Tesla's feet to the fire by demanding a huge price to allow them to use it. Elton Musk is not happy about it at all. This guy has apparently done the same thing with other American companies and has become quite wealthy as a result. ....... Coot

Here is a interesting website.

The G-Wiz L-ion looks like it would be a great car to drive to work.

The Nissan Leaf is also a good electric commuter with about an 80 mile range, depending upon temperature.

I have a Ford C-Max Energi, a plug in hybrid made in Detroit. I plug it in at home to a 110 outlet and get a full charge in six hours or less. In the summer it get 20+ miles on pure electric and then it goes to hybrid mode which yields a little over 40 mpg. I have had the car since March, driven it about 3000 miles and have gotten around 110 miles per gallon of gas.

I believe the battery and charging technology will improve to the point that my next car will not need the hybrid back up and I will be able to go 100% electric.

This is an old story that developed last year. Zhan Baosheng is the Chinese businessman who sued Tesla Motors last year for trademark infringement. The case was dismissed by Chinese authorities. Baosheng is now appealing that decision and demanding that the California-based company close all of its showrooms, service centers, and Supercharger stations in China. He is also seeking 23.9 million yuan ($3.85 million) in compensation.

in a ruling last year, Chinese authorities actually revoked the Tesla trademarks that Baosheng had registered in China in 2006. Reuters is reporting that the Beijing Third Intermediate Court is now set to hear the appeal on Aug. 5.

Doesn't look like investors have that much to worry about, considering Baosheng's past dealings with the Chinese court system.
