Corel Painter X3. It's expensive, has a steep learning curve, like photoshop, extensive user base, online tutorials etc, but you can do amazing work with it.

Topaz is certainly good, but I think the best PP program out there to specifically make a photo look like a painting is Alien Skin's Snap Art.

Checkout Topaz, here are a couple I have done, have not mastered it by any means but have found it works for some photos not for others.

Which Topaz filter(s) did you use on the pictures?

Hi Mike: You might give this a try. Don't know if it's exactly what you have in mind but it definitely will paint photos in many different styles.

I used to have a Program called Painter from a company called Fractal Design which later sold it to Metacreations which sold it to Corel. The latest version is a handful, but there are Lite versions now for both Mac and Windows at $50.

Try Dynamic Auto Painter. Virtual Painter 5 is also really excellent if you can find a working download link.

I just down loaded Fotosketcher from his site.. (THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE) and it is really a nice piece of work and well worth a donation. Here are two that I just did using his software. Warning the color paint selections can take as much as 10 minutes to process the black and white sketches only a few seconds. Really a great program and as everyone has said for free

Original was HDR converted to oil paint

FotoSketcher works well, however I really like Dynamic Auto Painter (DAP)
http://www.mediachance.com/dap/index.html DAP has a free demo: It puts a watermark on the output.

There are almost too many to list! There is Photoshop Elements, of course Photoshop, Painter Pro, a very good one is Snap Art 4 (this was just a itsy, bitsy view of sooo many more out there)!

Corel Painter does some amazing things to your photographs. Check places like Office Depot or Fry's for previous versions and you can get a big price break. Also Photoshop has different techniques under Filters to make a photo look like a painting, either water color or oil.
