I have no idea what this thing does on railroad tracks, but found it of interest enough to make a photograph or two, including close up details...

That is a track sweeper (I think). I haven't seen
one in years, but I drove an 18 wheeler for a while
back in my younger days and I was sent where-ever
to move them from one track to another in their yards.

No HDR, just single infrared exposure and a bit of post process in PS like color channel swap of blue and red and a bit contrast control.
