We will be vacationing in New Hampshire for about 10 days late July and early August in Intervale, north of North Conway. Any ideas of place to go for good photography? We will of course be going up Mt. Washington
Thanks

Franconia Notch State Park, the Flume (nice hike), Aunt Polly's Pancake House is a neat experience and good food. Within an hour West of Mt. Washington there are numerous covered bridges. Hope you enjoy the area as much as we did last Fall.

I go to the N. Conway area often. You really need to check out the Kancamagus Highway, rte 112, just outside Conway center. It's 34 miles long and has many opportunities for scenic shots. Also, if you take the West Side Rd. in Conway (parallels Rte 16), you'l get some great shots of a covered bridge and water. Franconia Park is awesome. I have many Fall shots of the area. The problem you will have is that its is very crowded at this time of year. The Flume was ok, but if it is crowded, it will be tough to get great shots and the lighting is very contrasty. Do some scouting and then head back around sunrise or sunset for some great shots. Also, take some roads off the beaten track and you will find some great stuff! I personally prefer to go there in the Fall for the colors.

Just for fun, you might try Canobie Lake Park. It's an old, and still operating, amusement park. Many colorful things to photograph, and if you have young ones with you, they'll have fun too.

If you go on the Kancamagus from Conway to Lincoln, NH, there are several sites to visit there if you have kids. Clarke's Trading Post has a bear show and you have the Flume and Lost River. It's a very touristy place, of course.

If you like "white knuckle" drives, by all means drive yourself up to Mt. Washington. I did it, but a whole bunch of times on the drive wished I had not. For an easier time, take the train. Plus, you can do the photo op thing without worrying about driving off the edge to eternity. I went there in July, but the temp at the top was at best, in the 50s. You will want a jacket. Enjoy.

I would not take my own car up Mt. Washington...it is hard on the car. Conway is fun. Jackson is scenic as is Rte. 16 straight up to Errol, NH. You can take 16 and go across to the left on 302 which will take you past two falls right off the main road, two ponds and over Crawford notch....all beautiful. If you go down 93 from there you can stop at the Basin which is a short stroll and beautiful along the river with the basin as the main focal point. The Kancamagus 112 is gorgeous and Sabaday Falls is off the Kanc and a short walk up to some beautiful falls. I have a home btw. Lisbon and Littleton, NH, an hour from Intervale. If you want some real fun, go over Hurricane Mountain Rd. off 16 down by Intervale across to 113 and up to Rte. 3. Moose and bear have been seen on that road and also follows a rocky river. Eat onion soup at Mr. Pizza or their fried fish plate (amazing) and you will also see my work hanging in there. The temp has been in the 70s by day and 50s by night. I am here now.

Don't forget echo lake, and drive up to the top of Cathedral ledge for sunrise (over looks the valley). Travel a little south on route 16 to Mount Chocorua and lake Chocorua for great reflection shots

Thanks for coming to the State, we all like tourist that visit, there are numerous places, that all of these post have mentioned and missed as well.
Also if you are in a no hurry kind of way when you get to Concord, NH get off of 93 and get on the old road Route 3 North, you will see everything, that you will miss traveling on 93.

If you are a hiker, and in good shape, and have the proper emergency backpack equipment, you can have a go at climbing the Presidential range, or if you like Tuckerman's Ravine is always beautiful.

The White Mountain National forest is a great place to drive through and picnic.

Look for signs near the Basin for Arathusa Falls not so great in the Summer / Fall, but dynamite in the Spring with the snow melt run off.

Go up Rt 302, there are so many places with great views. you could go over 302 to RT 93 to Sugar Hill NH, go to Polly Pancake Parlor (make a reservation) and you have some views from there that are great and then ride more up the hill and to the left at top of hill. Nice town and many views. There is a nice little church up there called Historic Saint Mathews Church. It is above Polly's pancakes and on opposite side but worth a few shots. Many great flowers but not sure what is in bloom in August.
Go to Canon Mountain and go up the Tram and you will have great views, also go up the train at Mt Washington. North Conway has some great opportunities for photos.
