Huge prints and mounting.

Hi,

Does anyone know of a place that I can get a huge print made and mounted? I have a client that wants an image that is 94"x44", and mounted on something fairly light weight. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Google "large format printing south calif," and several businesses come up. In Santa Cruz we have Bay Photo Lab who are well respected.

If you print on canvas with wrap around, you won't need a frame, keeping down the weight.

I use Bay Photo through SmugMug, their work is excellent. They have some foamcore and gatorboard mounting options which would be fairly light.

I've been quite satisfied with Chrome in San Diego for many years.

Look at Bay Photo. However, unless you can find a local source, shipping's going to be a bitch.

Get quotes and quote a price to your client. He may settle for a smaller size. And make sure you get payment up front. An enlargement that big isn't always satisfactory to the client ...

Really good advise. You may also need to educate your client about viewing distance and lighting requirements for something that large to be displayed. The client is likely to walk right up and stick his/her nose close to it and tell you it's out of focus. Good luck.

Canvas wrap would be lightweight. At that size you may consider contacting a local sign shop with a good quality large format printer. They usually use printers that can print 60" wide by 12-15 ft. Our local company Britten banners has some really high quality printers.

At that size, anything mounted to say foam core will probably warp. Canvas wrap or printed on metal might be an option. Also, how do you plan to install this large photo on wall? Things to think about.

Agree, no probably to it. It will warp if you use foam core...of which it only comes in sheets smaller than that.

Weldon Lab in Culver City California specializes in large printing and mounting. They are not cheap but they do the best quality work.

National geographic does a great job...just Google NG Printing and you can work directly with their lab...prices are not outrageous for the quality of work they do.

I just did a 44 x 32 for $125 and they did it exactly as I requested regarding paper, additional processing, etc.

Mount to gatorboard with "french cleats" to make the lightest display method possible. It is available in 4'x8 sheets and almost never warps. Any large format lab should be able to accomodate that. Florida Graphic Services does excellent work here in Florida.
