And now, the obligatory NRA cartoon.

In a car jacking it would be a little hard to draw it from a pocket and maneuver it around in a car. Steering wheel, roof, windshield all being a little confining. Just joshing you a little, no offense intended.

I agree the sound could be very unnerving, but I'm more of make sure of your target and then serve it cold like revenge should be. Police no longer give warning shots and that racking , is nothing more than a warning shot.

The results are certainly interesting. Gun ownership has increased dramatically under obama. He will probably go down is history as the best firearm salesman since Samuel Colt...Hmmm....

Well since Bill Clinton anyway. I believe he alone is head and shoulders above Samuel Colt. You are right. Obama has the record now.

Saw a great e mail that said due to the high cost of ammo there will not be a warning shot!

Tell me, does that include your brothers and their collections as well?

I would never say a women has a long lens for her camera as a replacement for a penis envy but wouldn't that comment, though gross and certainly not true, be a similar type of insult?

Is owning a gun patriotic? No, it is not. A gun is simply a tool the same as a hammer or a saw, both of which can be and have been used to kill.

Actually if history is studied you will find there have been school shootings for as long as there have been schools and guns. What changed? The internet came into existence. News stories are presented by many more sources in real time that were once usually left at the local level.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment, and with the way our government is going it's become more and more apparent why it's needed, but I also believe in dealing in truth.

Let’s pretend for a moment that you get the laws you want passed and all gun owners are now required to turn in their guns. Law abiding citizens (who by the way are not a threat) turn in their guns, done deal, problem solved. Now what about the criminal element? They don’t care about your laws, they don’t care about your safety, they don’t care about your ideology or your politics, they don’t care about your American dream and they are now content knowing they are armed and you’re not. The criminal can now walk into any home or business with an illegal gun knowing the homeowner or business owner is unarmed and is of no threat. The criminal now can hide along any hiking trail, bike trail, parking lot, camp ground and so on with gun in hand ready to rob and rape knowing you are not able to overpower his gun regardless of yourself defense training. Yep, great plan, I’ll tell you what, you figure out how to get the guns away from the criminal and then we’ll talk about me giving up mine. Oh and one other issue you’ll need to address is how you plan to protect the livestock of our ranchers and farmers. If you don’t think wild animals are real threats I’ll just assume you are ignorant of rural living and not qualified to comment.

My brothers don't feel they have to carry a gun wherever they go, they don't see a boogeyman behind every tree.

Nor do I and certainly not all of the owners of firearms on this or any other forum. I think you told me your brothers carried concealed firearms. If they don't carry all the time do they have a magic ball which tells them to carry in the inner city or in places where the people look threatening? When I am in a state (as in USA state rather than a state of disbelief or state of confusion) where it is legal for me to carry a firearm, I carry every time I go out. Why? Because I don't know where the safe areas are where I should not carry. Schools used to be fairly safe places but not so much anymore. They are safe from me because I am not allowed to carry there. Of course they are not safe from criminals or crazy people because they don't care about the laws. I still carry in a movie theater because I don't know what will happen there. Churches are not necessarily safe anymore either.

Believe me I am not trying to trick you or make it difficult. I am simply asking where is it safe to go in today's America? If I am an honest citizen why shouldn't I be allowed to carry wherever I want.

Donna, I carry a gun where I can (nobody even knows I have one) because there are bogeymen behind SOME trees. It is for them that I carry. If I never need to use it then no harm no foul.

One more thing. You are sitting in a movie theater enjoying the show. Suddenly a shot rings out and you realize you are not safe. Will you want an unarmed Barack Obama sitting next to you OR will you choose an honest citizen who is trained in the use of a firearm sitting there who can neutralize the situation right now to keep you and yours safe?

Exactly, carrying or owning a gun is being prepared, not scared..

Saw an interesting program the other night that featured a lawyer who specializes in representing people who have used their firearms to protect themselves and killed someone in the process. He said it was rather ironic that even though you were trying to defend yourself, the family of the person you shot will sue you in court. It will cost you $50,000 for every round you fired. In the end, he said, you may end up broke, but, at least, you'll still be alive.
