Last time I checked that is a full frame lens, so why are you selling. I'd try it out first and more then 10 times too!

So you all understand: first, this man is a good friend of mine. I go on and on about how good and friendly this site is, so he asked me if I thought it would be a good place to sell his lens. I said it was, and it's free to join.
So on his FIRST POST HERE, you three guys jump all over his ass about his motivation and, excuse him, his wording of his ad.
He wants to sell the damn thing, not get a lesson on posting correctly or whether it's a full-frame or crop frame camera or lens.
What the hell do you care anyway? If you're interested in the lens, follow up on it. If you're not, move on.
He's going to Africa to visit his son, who's doing a year as a member of Doctors Without Borders, and he's going on a photo safari while he's there. He wants a longer lens. Is that ok with you guys, or do you need more explanation?

Well said sir... (Made my day!) To be fair, I have mad such comments before, (asking about why a price someone was asking for a used lens, was only a couple $$ less than a new one. BUT I use to own retail and wholesale photo companies, and understand that photo equipment changes in their pricing a LOT (and SOON,) after they are introduced. So I was only trying to inform the person that they should check the price of a new one, if they want to get the piece sold...(Or if they WANTED to sell it at the "blue book" price...) But there is no reason to get mean and carry on with accusations.. Peace and Love..

Sorry if he is your friend. But its his FIRST post on here and he is trying to sell something. That has traditionally been the action of scam sellers on here and is well documented.
Secondly, he states his reason for selling is that he needs a full frame lens. The lens he is selling is a full frame lens, another statement that smacks of scam. If you want to help a friend then help him with the post, maybe check the accuracy of it before he posts, or right after he posts. The nice thing about the classifieds section is that the poster is able to change the entry, or even the title, forever! If he was upset that I or anyone else made a remark he did not like, he could have easily corrected it. And still could. The poster has not made a single comment here, or on any other thread, since he posted this apparent scam item, another red flag. Who this guy actually is makes no difference at all on an open forum such as this, he will be appraised based on his actions and entries, same as anyone else is on such an anonymous forum. A simple fact of internet life. You want to help him, then help him, but don't jump on regular members who are only watching out for the integrity of the site, that's pretty much a waste of time.

I was trying to help him out! Being that he only used it 10 times I thought maybe he didn't know what he had. His first post and I thought maybe he could save some money if he thought he needed a FF lens. Maybe he should speak for himself. No harm meant.

"I have news for you. That is a full frame lens."
And in posting this, you're watching our for the integrity of the site, is that correct?
You have an unusual way of doing so.
If you're interested in helping him, and others here, perhaps you should try dropping the sarcastic replies.

If you see that comment as a "sarcastic" remark, you have a lot bigger problems. It appeared obvious that he had no idea it was a full frame and I simply informed him it was. If I had wanted to be sarcastic, I could have said a WHOLE lot worse. I could have called him a scammer right off, or even an idiot, as the post does imply both the way it is written. One thing for sure, I am positive he now knows he already has a full frame lens in his possession.

Maybe you should take a "Time Out" and remember that his first post was to sell something, not to introduce himself or ask a question. To my eyes that does spell "SCAM".

Great points guys, and you all are correct in some form or other.. And very entertaining as well..
The best thing is that it was all FREE entertainment as well.
Hope that the gentleman now has enough information so as to:
-CEASE if he is a scammer. (The site is well policed)
-GRATEFUL if he didn't know it was a full frame lens.
-WISER if he sounded like he didn't know how to post an ad to the approval of the "Hedgehog Police"
AND...
HAPPIER if he DID sell it, OR decided to keep it..
Have a great day guys... You certainly made mine..

Wow, all this from an innocent effort to sell a lens and upgrade. Sorry if as an amateur I offended someone by not describing the lens exactly right. I am not a scammer but rather a 61-year old corporate attorney who has retired to Michigan. I only learned of this website recently and have not posted before because most of you seem to know more than me about photography. I am interested in the new Tamron 150-600mm lens because I understand it will work better with my (relatively) new D600. Any advice how best to sell my old lens will be appreciated.

You are doing nothing wrong by posting for sale here at all. What was wrong was that no one here has a clue who you are and the most common scams on this site are new users posting things for sale without having introduced themselves to the forum. What made the post look even more like a scam was the statement that you needed to sell a FX lens in order to upgrade to an FX lens. This implies either you had no idea what the lens actually was or that you were limiting your buyers by misleading them into thinking this may have been a DX lens.
You can make any corrections, alterations or additions to the post as you might like to being the original poster, that's another benefit of this format. No one here is a mind reader, and with photographic equipment proper detailed descriptions are almost always necessary as one wrong letter can mean a lens is something totally different from what it was believed to be, especially when it comes to aftermarket lenses like this one.
This is a large community of photographers, some quite knowledgable and some not so much. Plenty can be garnered from the information and discussions here if you want to join in.
Good luck in selling your lens here, its a nice lens and its only down side was always the lack of any kind of optical stabilization, something the replacement 150-600mm SP VC lens corrected quite well.
