Timbuk2 is, IMHO, the king of messenger bags. Messenger bags are slung over the opposite shoulder and ride on your hip. See their photo insert.

Thank you, I have to go to the airport this afternoon and pick up some friends so will take either the measurements or the bag with me and go in and check it out

Terry; I am going to be doing the same thing next month and went on line and checked with the airlines I will be flying on. Everything is there for you to read, measure and resolve any questions you may have. There is also a weight listed for bags as well. I have a Domke bag and it is just under what you can bring aboard. Good luck!

I am going back to California for a wedding in the family and want to bring my Nikon D7100 and at least 3 of my lenses along with my Sony Bridge camera. I use a Tamrac Cyber Pack 6 bag, has anyone had any problems with a bag of that size and bringing your equipment on the plane. Do you think that my Mefoto tripod would be a problem or is that bag to large?. I have not taken a plane in 6 years and know much has changed in the rule-book. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Terry

No that fine. I travel all the time with my tripod and camera bag. As a matter of fact i just got back from Maui. Should be no problem. What part of California are you going to be in.

One of the planes I flew last week had the larger bins on the outside. Just be aware that the inner and outer bins are likely different in size and choose accordingly.

Just returned from a wedding in California (Yosemite). I took D800, 17-35mm, 24-85mm, 70-300mm (compromise for space - it's much more compact than my 70-200 f/2.8), SB 800, Dolica CF tripod in case, plus accessories toiletries, sweater, etc. in standard backpack and stored it under seat. No problems on United. Protected spare lenses & flash in lens cases, everything with sweater. Backpack had padding designed for laptop. Biggest drawback was weight and fact that there was little room for my size 11 1/2s along side backpack under seat. Had a blast! You do the same.

Yosemite, is right behind the Sonora area. One of the most beautiful spots on earth, nice place to have a wedding.I am flying Alaska air and checked the bins and have asked them they state everything that I want to bring is ok. I think that I will leave the tripod here and borrow a friends when I get there.
