I'm shopping for a new lens for my Nikon D3100. I've looked at a few on Amazon.
Tamron AF 18-20mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di ll LD aspherical (IF) Macro zoom Lens with built in motor.
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro zoom lens with built in motor
Tamron AF - 270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di ll VC PZD Asperical IF Macro Zoom Lens with built in motor.
Can someone break this down for me please.
I see that you are considering lenses advertizing their macro capabilities. Before deciding, learn the minimal focusing distance of each lens.
Many lenses have the word "Macro" imprinted on their barrels, but cannot reach 1:1 magnification (life-size), which is the definition of true macro. These lenses are okay for distance and close-up photography, but require additional attachments to reach true macro.

Although I do not own a Nikon I too have been researching the Tamron lens offerings on Amazon. The one that is most highly regarded by many is the AF 70-300 f4.0-5.6 VC. I am getting one for my camera.
I have the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro zoom lens with built in motor. It is model A17, so it is extremely inexpensive (I think I paid about $160.00). I bought it when I purchased my D3100. I take a lot of sports photos of my kids -- at night and indoors. It's decent but not obviously not very fast. And even though it does say "Macro", it's only a 1:2, so it's not a true macro. You get what you pay for.

Check prices for the Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-f5.6 non-VR on eBay (advanced search, completed). Ridiculously cheap -- not inexpensive, cheap! On the other hand, this lens really needs VR unless you're on a tripod.
AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II
70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II
AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III
Sure this is about $4,000 worth of Lens, but you have the 50mm for your portrates, 18-200mm the best walk-around lite and good range, now as my Hispanic friend says open your pocketwalet, 70-200mm w/2xTC this will bring your sports photos and wildlife to a new light w/o 2x you have a wonderful lens for indoors sports, graduations, weddings or I just want this pic to be that tack sharp. Have a 70-300 use it only in the Spring for Mirco w/+10 macro adapter. The 70-200 just kicked it to the curb.
