I would like to get a new camera but am getting confused about going about it
1 no camera store around (BestBuy, Walmart ect only carry Cannon Rebels which I don't like the plastic feel)I like the feel of my old SLRs
2 want to be able to shoot sports as well as landscape
3 have old but not great lenses for Nikon, Cannon and Minolta

Kind of interested in Sony A series...

I use Sony camera and like them very much. the
A77 and A99 are great depending on whether you want full frame or not.

not interested in full frame.....budget is limited but don't mind getting a decent used one

If your Minolta lenses are AF lenses, they will work on the Sony Digital bodies. Nikon lenses work on Nikon bodies pretty much no matter what within the limitations of the lenses themselves. Canon MF lenses won't work on anything but old Canon film bodies, but their AF lenses will work on all crop sensor DSLRs and many full frame models as well. Knowing the EXACT lenses you are talking about would really help in assisting you with fitment.
People will tell you that you can get "adaptors" to put any lens on almost any body, and while this is pretty much a fact, you will almost never be satisfied with the results when compared to a properly fitted and fully functioning lens.

B and H Photo has used Sony A55s and A77. I like both. I would get one and the see about a Tamron all in one lens.

IF your Minolta lenses are AF and not the older MD format, then they will work on ANY Sony Alpha Mount camera... The A58, A65, A77, A77II, and the A99 are the current models.

Sony Cameras have built in image stabilization using sensor shift technology, and they produce excellent images with Minolta Glass.

If you do NOT have a camera store near by, plan a day trip to the nearest one that sells Sony/Pentax/Olympus products in addition to the usual Canikon stuff.

Talk to a technician if you can, but do NOT dismiss Sony products on the advice of someone who says don't buy.

Play around with the gear in your price range then do some research on it when you get back home.

I am a HUGE fan of the Sony A77, and plan to upgrade soon to the A77 mark II. It is an EXCELLENT camera, but so is the A65.

If you have to buy outside the Sony range, I suggest looking at Nikon D5300 or D7100, both excellent cameras in their own rights. The Pentax K-5/K-3 are also very good cameras, as is the Olympus OMD EM-1.

You can of course get into digital photography for much less than you would spend on any of these cameras... but if you plan to upgrade in the future, you would have to buy one (or a similar) model anyhow.

Welcome to the Forum I can tell you if shoot with a Rebel cannon all of what you shoot will be exploded but if you shoot with Canon all the photos will look real nice and I'll bet you will be much happier with the results too. What ever camera you decide to get you'll be very happy. Don't forget you can purchase a very good D-SLR from B&H or Adorama and from MTShooter shop. The Internet is your friend.
