Hi I have seen several different people post photos of there dogs and was wondering if any of you pet lovers do sports with your dogs like agility tracking herding ...etc any way i was thinking about tracking and wondered if anyone had experience in that field thank you i have a Mini Aussie my mom has another and my sister has a Pembroke welsh corgi sorry for the blur and do you happen to know why the corgi gets green eye instead of red eye
mine aint he beautiful
my sisters annoooyyyiiinnnggg
my moms probably the easiest to train
Son-in-law has two Australian Shepherds. By nature they are herders not trackers. A good friend of mine had to get rid of her Australian Shepherd because she kept escaping the yard and would nip at the neighborhood kids trying to herd them. A lawsuit waiting to happen. She had to give her dog up.
I think HHH is going to the dogs!

I think I remember it's something about a reflective layer at the back of their eyes which we humans do not have that helps them with night vision.
I have a very lovable Havense. She doesn't do tricks and a lot of other things I want her to do. I think she has me trained to scratch her belly and pet her. She is a good subject to photograph when she is in the posing mood. Here are a couple of pictures of her.
Lot of Aussie lovers on here...mine is a three years old pound rescue mini (@45lbs)...he can't catch anything and will never be a sport dog...but we love him anyway

I do agility, water works, obedience and conformation with my dogs. I've never done tracking but was told I should give it a try with my youngest PWD. (Portuguese Water Dog). She uses her nose a lot. I've been told if you want to do tracking with your dogs you should start with that before you work with them in anything else. Agility, water works, herding, obedience, conformation, etc, requires the dog to look at you all the time, where tracking requires the dog to keep his nose on the ground. Once you teach him to watch you its very difficult to train him to keep his nose on the ground. Your breed does great in herding and agility, its hard to beat a Aussie on the agility course. Should find some local Aussie Club, they should be able to tell you how these dogs do in tracking.
Y'll do and old mans heart good to see all the ANIMAL LOVER, anGODbless each one of you.

Kylan - We have usually only bred Chows, and unfortunately, they would rather goof off than work. Their only agility is jumping the gun to see who can get out of the door the fastest. Slackers!
You have some pups - and good luck in the training!

Our dear old friend is now 17, he's a red merle mini aussie, looks very much like your mom's dog...only he's blind now, both eyes were 3/4 blue, 1/4 brown and the star of the dog park back in the day!
This is Katie Rose, a chihuahua. She has a nose like a bloodhound. She gets a scent outdoors and follows it, sometimes without any encouragement. When I noticed how well she tracked things on her own, I started showing her tracks and following them for a short distance with her so she would understand what I wanted. Now, it is no problem to take her and get her to track whatever I want her to, but she prefers to follow the squirrels and the rabbits. I guess she knows we aren't really going to bring that deer home no matter what I try to tell her, but she'll track it for me anyway until it gets lost in the deep deep woods.
I've done the same thing with following people tracks, just like they do with the bloodhounds. Some people she knows by name and I can just tell her to find them, and it helps if I know where they started from so I can get her on the right track. Others, I give her a scent and tell her to track and she does ok about 60% of the time. Not too bad for a dog that's less than seven inches tall!!
I doubt that is really the kind of training your asking about, but if I can train a chihuahua to track a deer, training a dog who has those traits more inbred than she does should be a breeze.

These are the first photos we took of our Aussie, his pound name is Maxx but we call him Augie
I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a mixed Boxer/Aussie. For years we had Aussies and never even had to housebreak one. They just did it all themselves.
Bad photo, no time to try to fix it
This is Ceasar, 85lbs blue nose pit bull. He is a little big for his breed. My neighbor calls him a pit bull on steriods. I know he looks like a real badass, but he's a living teddy bear.
Best friend to everybody.
