Back in my 35mm film days, I had used a 2x tel-converter and had some very good results with it, but I'm wondering if anyone has any history with them now and if so, how satisfied are you? I own a Cannon Rebel T3, have the 300 zoom lens and was thinking about getting a 2x for it.
Check with Gregoryd45, he uses one on his Cannon all the time. My use is limited to the Sigma lens on a Nikon which I dearly love.
Were I you I would ensure a TC is completely compatible with your glass.
I use a 1.4 Canon TC with my 70-200 and 100-400 L glass.
(I have heard horror stories about incompatibilities, CRASH)

What is the max aperture of your 300mm lens. You will drop 2 full f stops with a 2x and 1 with a 1.4 so AF may be a problem. I use both a 2x and a 1.4x but with 2.8 lenses and I'm very satisfied with the results. There are several brands that will work with your camera.
I recently bought an older Canon FD 400mm f4.5, and I also bought the matching Canon 2x TC. I use it with an adapter on my Olympus OMD's. Honestly, I'm having a hard time telling the difference between the lens by itself and the lens with the TC... I can't believe how good this 45$ TC is, especially when I compare it with my Olympus 2x TC, that thing is useless. So I would say if you're already familiar with the pros and cons of using a TC and you liked it, you probably will again.
read the resent posts and replys concerning tc'c. also check the search ingine here.
I use a Tamron 2X on both my Canon 7D and 6D. Takes good to very good pics. A little softer in detail than just a plain lens but still very acceptable.

I use a tamron 1.4X on my Canon T1i, and canon100-300mm lens. I never take it off my camera. You can check my posts and see the results bob54m
I use a Nikon TC 2x II on my 70-200 f/2.8. I lose two stops but it works as advertised.

I do not have your camera body, but have used the 2X with success on the following bodies: 20D, 40D, 7D, 1DX and the following lenses: 400mm F2.8 IS, 20-200mm F2.8 IS. Auto focus is a bit slower, but if you prefocus in the general area, then it is fast as usual. The pictures are clear, sharp, and well saturated. If the 2X fits the lens, I think it will work great.

I use a 2x tele-converter on my Nikon 200mm-400mm and it works fine.

I use both a 2x and 1.4x with my Canon 300mm f/4. Check my last two eagle posts. I used the 2x on them. Both are Canon.

Whenever a question of tele-converters comes up I encourage looking at the Tokina Pro 300 1.4. It is very sharp, very well made and compatible with the cameras they are designed for. Others have mentioned the 1.4 and I feel that is the best way to extend a lens' focal length. The one stop loss of light is as much as I want to give up.
