Thank you for the welcome. I could tell there's a lot of intelligent people on here, the main reason I signed up. You're right about becoming interested. I've had that happen on more than one occasion. I figure I'll learn a lot if by nothing else than through osmosis by association.

Thank you for the welcome. The guy that recommended to me the camera is also a Nikon shooter along with his dad.

I know that joke. I think the same thing every time I think of the name. I never did get to shoot a cannon in the Navy. The closest I ever got was a LAW.

Hmm. It looks like I'm replying to my original post in stead of individual posts like I thought. Lol. Okay, I gotta regroup. I'll be back!

Just hit the <quote reply> button and your response will have context to the original ... and keep on shooting.

Do you mean Yashika? I still have my Yashika Mat 24 Twin Lens Reflex with original packaging. Can't bear to part with it.

Let me start by saying thank you to everyone for the welcome. I won't waste everybody's time by retyping what I already posted.

You're right, Chg_Canon, I'm interested in the reaching out a distance when I can't walk there. I like your recommendation for the 70-300mm. I'm not afraid to buy used, although I never heard of KEH.com. I've been looking on eBay and Amazon. I'll have to keep it in mind. was able to score my camera with lens for $177 simply because of an ink stain on the side of the lens. I also figure I can wait a few years to get the telephoto lens. Shoot, it took me about 50 years to get the camera, I figure another 2 or 3 to get the telephoto lens is no big deal.

To those who I ruffled their feathers by stating I wasn't interested in learning about f-stop and other functions of photography. I don't see those functions as not fun for others. I enjoy and appreciate the photographs that people who enjoy doing them produce. I fully respect the knowledge as well, that's why I'm here. And who knows, like Donna said, I just might become interested as time goes on.

I looked up Yashika, but that's not it. Close though, very close.

Welcome Chaostrain..I think a lot of folks on UHH had the same idea as you and just wanted a place to occasionally post a photo or two. However I bet within a very short time you will see how much fun the learning is and be seeking a lot of advise from those that know. I always like to see more Oregonians here and some day we will all have to get together and talk "shop"

Welcome. I am new too. I am found I started the same as you and then got hooked of F stops and ISO and DOF. All of a sudden you will find yourself speaking in code. Enjoy it, relax and be assimilated into the crazy world of photography. :-) It will happen when you least expect it.
