I used to watch Gene Autry on Saturday Matinees at my small town movie theater. A quarter would get you into the movie, with a bag of popcorn.
Thanks for the memory

our local dairy used to sponsor a Saturday movie and the admission was an empty milk carton. Popcorn was extra, and I don't remember ever getting any. But the movie, previews and Fox Movietone news was always great! The news was always about how great our boys were doing in Korea!

I'll bet our Saturday movies were sponsored by our parents. We spent most of the day at the movie because there were the movie shorts, several serials, the coming attractions and then a double feature. By the time we got out it was beginning to get dark. If either or both of the movies were cowboys then we had to check our cap guns with the movie owner and he put them on a peg board with our name below each gun. This was due to our helping out the good guys/cavalry and the cap gun smoke would get so thick it was hard to see the screen. Probably can't take your cap gun to the movie today but growing up in the 40's was a whole different ball game.

I think that's the first time I've ever seen Clayton Moore without the Lone Ranger mask. I realize that this movie was before he became the Lone Ranger, so of course, no mask. It was even more fun to see Jay Silverheels as well. To think that those two went on, along with Gene Autry, to entertain people for years with their movie characters.

Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed it!

Ah what memories ... Saturdays at the local theater with my long-suffering grandmother, watching westerns, eating popcorn and laughing my head off at the WB cartoons ...

Thanks for posting this ...

[quote=Meives]Sophistication and Youth are the ability to listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger. Ha Ha David I too enjoyed my Saturday mornings with the films. I later was an usher in the local theater. I told people I was in show business. I had my name up in lighs (on the markee) untill my boss caught me.

Bit of trivia.

In the picture "Gladiator" Maximus is behind bars, kind of like a waiting room before going to the arena.

Master Lucius asks him if they have good horses in Spain

Maximus says yes, and points to his chest protector and says "This is Argento and this is Scarto .

They are named Argento and Scarto. The names were actually meant to be a joke because they are Latin for Silver and Trigger. Silver was the name of the Lone Ranger's horse and Trigger was the name of Roy Rogers' horse.

The good old days! Don't watch much TV these days most of the programming sucks. I do have a Western channel that I watch when I have the time. Great way to relax. Thanks for posting.
