Lighthouse, I truly appreciate your words -- more than you may think. Tomorrow I prepare for delicate surgery to remove a tumor from my brain stem area, and it's not entirely certain if I'll be able to continue photographing. Photography has been my entire life; 40+ years of teaching and practicing it. You've given me precisely what I needed to hear. Perhaps it's time for me to enjoy the smell of roses as much as their appearance, and to start experiencing moments to the full without a camera in my face. Photography's great, even fabulous, and I really hope that I'll be able to return to it. Thanks, though, for reminding me that there's a lot to enjoy in life even if we're not taking pictures of it.

Prayers on the way from our family. Best wishes and here's to a speedy and full recovery!

Because of the interchangeable lens. I would split things this way:

* interchangeable lens camera (ILC)
- - medium format
- - DSLR
- - mirrorless (full frame, APS-C, m4/3, CX/1" )

* non-ILC
- - bridge (Leica V-Lux 4, Sony RX-10)
- - advanced compact (Leica D-Lux 6, Sony RX100)
- - point & shoot (Canon Elph)

Amentha, I an NOT disputing your categories, but I have two questions:
1. In ILC, would you group rangefinders (e.g., Leica) with mirrorless?
2. In non-ILC, would P&S include toy cameras (e.g., Barbie, Disney)?
Thank you

I thought about rangefinders right after I posted that list. I think there is an "other" category under both ILC and non-ILC, which covers all of these as well as the Fuji X100S.

Good luck, and you're in my prayers.

Get a Sony HX300 and you're ready for anything. Lovely images and no lens changing.

What do you consider a bridge camera. I have seen this term several times, but don't know what camera or type of camera you are talking about.

This was asked by davidheald1942 on page 8, with several answers provided. If you do not find a satisfactory answer there, we'll try again. :-)
