Aug 29, 2013 - SHINER, TX

A Texas father walked in on his five-year-old daughter being molested and wasted no time in beating the man to death. The grand jury found the dad not guilty due to a state law that allows deadly force to be used to stop an aggravated sexual assault.

The incident occurred June 9th near Shiner, Texas. Someone spotted a farmhand, Jesus Flores, carrying the girl into a secluded area and alerted the girl's father. The concerned parent ran towards his daughters screams and found them both with their underwear off.

The father flew into a rage and beat Flores into unconsciousness. When he was sure the man was no longer a threat, he called 911 to report on the incident. Come on! This guy is going to die on me! I don't know what to do - he yelled.

The event was treated as a homicide but the father did not go to jail and will not be charged with a crime.

Works for me! :D

The "Problem" with Maine, has been for the last 10-20 years and is getting worse is those damn "out of stater's with money" coming in and buying up all the good properties, raising the tax base, getting on town councils, school boards and in elected offices and then trying to changing a once quiet, rural community mentality into metropolitan Bostonian mentality... not saying we wish to be backwards rural... just saying we had our own community based ways before the "invasion" of money and urban culture. Interesting thing is, Portland Maine has a city population of 66,000 and probably another 100,000 in local bedroom type communities and it sees itself as equal to any major metropolitan area as far a culture... LOL... dream on.

The "Problem" with Maine, ...

I was stationed at Brunswick NAS from '70-'75. First duty station in my career - I loved the people and the area - really hated to leave. Went back last fall and was shocked at the growth and the costs...

But I do understand the growth issues -
We lived in Colorado Springs when it was 40,000 and went to 500,000 in a very short time span.

We now live in the middle Kansas, surrounded by wheat fields, down to earth people that still trust each other, and will drop what they are doing to help you if needed. Hard to ask for more...

We also love the peace and quiet :)

I was born in Maine, but after the service I spent 25 years living in the San Francisco bay area. I left because of the congestion on the highways. It would take an hour or more to go 30 miles. When I returned to Maine in 2000, I thought I was moving back to some sanity... lol... because of the road system (or lack of) the traffic congestion is just as bad on a percentage scale as is the accident rate.

Hi Shellback. Are you near the Flint Hills? I love the (so-called) "flatlands" of the Great Plains and no exactly why the song speaks to "Amber waves of grain..."

I've "worked" archaeological sites around the Flint Hills, but I'm most familiar with the western part of Kansas and the NW corner (where I have in-laws and I used to hunt bird) I've been to El Cuartelejo many times - even "delivering" sacred items for my Puebloan friends. I have worked in "undeveloped" parts and have even been in the Kiva that the State of Kansas has (for good reason) kept buried.

Gotz a soft spot in my heart for Sharon Springs, Monument Rocks, Scott City and many other places. I've had each of my kids, at one time or another "climb" Mount Sunflower!

Man, how treads drift here and there so quickly.

Any who - I called today and the package was delivered on the 27th but the PO still does not have proof or verification of a signature.

What did I pay extra for for certified mail.

Bye Bye

Glad it made it :)

Call the PO and tell them since they did not get proof - you want a refund...

When you send a certified piece of mail the person that you sent it to has to sign for it. You will not get anything back unless you asked for a return receipt having two types electronic (online) or green card. You may be able to take the certified number and go to the USPS web sight and see if you can find any information.

Not doubting you... just stating that there are problems with the system... whether or not they can be fixed is another issue altogether.

The reason the USPS is in this struggling.

The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act was a deliberate mandate imposed by the Republican Congress in Dec ’06 and meant to expedite the privatization of the Postal Service targeting so as to eventually weaken or eliminate the largest union membership in the country which, as common, mostly votes democratic. The Postal Service had been able to completely fund itself until this imposition without U.S. tax revenue as stipulated in the 1970 Postal Reorganization Act.
This is fact, not opinion. Look it up on a non partisan resource. Vote and speak out on this partisan manufactured travesty!

I have visited our local Post Office on many occasions...due to the mail carrier too G/D lazy to put a package that didn't fit in my mail bin into a larger box specifically used for that purpose at the mailbox area. I have also had to go because they said nobody was home to receive a package when in fact I was in my office with windows to keep an eye out, and my dog would have barked if someone got on the porch. When you observe the hired help at the main PO its easy to understand why...wearing flip-flops while sorting mail, wearing whatever wardrobe they see fit(what happened to the uniforms?) Just a lack of leadership in the house!

Postal Accountability...THERE IS NONE....that's the problem!

I mailed an important document from Fort Myers FL to St Petersburg FL on the 24th of May as Priority Mail with a Certified Mail add-on.

It's now 31 May (7 days) and my tracking number says it is in St Petersburg but delivery has not been verified.

What the hell? Why offer a service if you can't complete the service.

We had a package coming from overseas to Lehigh Acres. It went from New York south to Fort Myers like it should but didn't stop here. It was then sent over to Miami, out to Missouri, up to Indiana, back to Jacksonville, finally returned to Fort Myers, and stayed there for a couple days before it was sent the final 10 miles to Lehigh. It took almost two weeks for the package to get here as we watched the trip on the USPS tracking web page. That's very sick. And they wonder why they are losing billions per year...

What galls me is that the Fort Myers post office near Page Field has a sign on the wall bragging about how the Post Office is totally self-funded from sales of postage and services and doesn't rely on the government for ANY funding. Absolute lie. I even asked the manager how they could put such a sign up when the whole world knows the U.S. government subsidizes them with billions and billions every year. He denied it with a hasty tone to his voice and said the sign is correct as he walked off in a huff.
