I don't have very many people in except for photo shoots or bike repair. Some people laugh, some are envious, and some will not leave. Chicago has a deep history of hidden eccentric studios and buildings. My building is an artist condo coop. We are all artists and owners, under our bylaws. Normal people need not apply. It's the best place I have ever lived.

Some people simply have to collect. It's a survival instinct. Without my acorns I am very worried.

quote=AVarley]If I ever walked into a major collection of photo equipment and misc stuff I'd gasp ... in AWE! You should see my collected DVDs for which my family compares me to the same show. But I dont care! Like you said, to each his own.[/quote]

If not Dr. Phil, we'll see him on TLC's Hoarding: Buried Alive.

You better go on Dr. Phil and confess and go to rehab in some exotic setting, treatment paid for in return for alerting others of this disorder.

I am very close to that limit. I also collect motorcycles. The new plan is stacking the smaller bikes on pallet racks. I was a mechanic for 40 years. I love anything mechanical. Old cameras fit right in. I also just picked up a mint 1952 Beseler Junior Vu-Graph overhead projector. I can now project 4x5 slides! My studio is half motorcycle shop, half portrait studio, and the bathroom is a darkroom.

I have read several DIY bellows sites, and it seems to be fairly easy. Maybe next winter...

I once knew a BMW motorcycle dealer in Mexico, MO who had a warehouse full of uncrated BMW cycles. He had been in business for a long time and he took one bike of each variation for each year and left it in the crate and stored it. He had also been a Hodaka dealer, and when they quit making them, he was one of the only dealers in the country that had parts. Made a mint of money from that. Hodaka was owned by some non-motorcycle corporation and, even though the were good bikes and sold well, they decided they could make more money doing something else, so they closed the production line.

That has been about three decades ago and I have since moved away from the area. Would have been interesting to see what became of his collection.

quote=Danilo]I think it would be great to watch someone make a bellows! (Someone who knows how to.)
I had to quit collecting stuff. It got so that if I came home with something the size of a loaf of bread, I had to throw something of the same size away! Damn...those were the good ol' days!

I confess. I have a sickness. I keep seeing great deals on Craigslist. I can't stop.

Ditto me with ebay, and Amazon, to some extent. Online shopping is great! I think UPS has a dedicated truck and driver for our house.

I knew it was only a matter of time before TLC had a "Camera Hoarders" spinoff. I hope they come to your house first ... before mine.

Funny. I will not pay for cable TV. It has ads. I simply watch OTA or streaming.
