Curtis Joe With A Twist

Sorting through a lot of old sessions the past few days. Stumbled on this shot taken on the street Halloween 2012. Curtis Joe is another local photographer and we turned the corner and bumped into each other. I took the opportunity to snap 3 quick shots of him standing just off the corner of a wall and this was the best of the bunch..

So in processing this shot it is a bit of a marriage of my usual workflow and some of the workflow Russ teaches. Overall I think it took a boring snapshot and turned it into something at least a little interesting.

What did you do/use to get such an interesting texture and feel to the background in the B/W image?

Just a bit of concrete. Rotated 90 degree left if I remember correctly.

Thanks Bobby. I have read estimates from several sources that it takes about 10,000 hours of learning and practice to gain mastery of a skill, and I see the work you and Russ post and your comments and explanations of how you do things, and I'm reminded that you guys have put in your 10,000 hours, and I know that I'm still in the early stages of putting in mine but with the teaching you both do so well and so willingly, well, maybe my time to mastery will be reduced to ONLY 9,000 hours.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for has been a huge contribution to this section of this forum.

Well said, Jon, I couldn't agree more. This forum has become a go to place for me to keep on learning as well.
