To capture the moment in nature along with the light and colors. I have always had an interest in photography,

I find myself wondering sometimes why we make, take, create photos. For family, for income, for memories, for art, for fame, to put on a disk and forget, or to investigate the world around us?
Sometimes I catch myself wondering why or what caught my attention for a shot and then remembering it was the light on the edge of the leaf, but the light has changed by then and the shot is gone. Perhaps better to wonder after the shot.
Anyway, was just curious as what other photographers think.

I mostly shoot glamour, fashion, fine art, boudoir. So, I get to spend a couple of hours hanging around beautiful models who are often wearing very little, if any, clothing. The question answers itself.

More seriously, my quest is to create art by shooting the perfect picture. I have shot probably 100,000 photos in the past 7 years, and a few have been featured on OneModelPlace as "showcase" images. I still find little things that I wish I had done differently, with light placement, cropping, etc. I have gotten close, but I have never been completely satisfied with the result.

there will always be a lot of missed shots. things move and the scene changes. we hope we'll be ready, that the camera will be handy, that we will see the shot in time. sometimes we see a shot and have time to set it up. how well we set it up depends on our level of experience.

For me, thinking about doing it is more productive than thinking about why.

two reasons - one is to see if I can recreate what I my saw that my brain liked and the other is to satisfy my curiosity, i.e.: "Gee, I wonder if I...?" or "I wonder what that would look like?".

I used to wonder about that same question.....now I have come to realize I shoot because I like looking at photos. Mostly I like looking at photos I have taken of things or people I have seen. I like looking at the work of other Photographers to see their interests. I also like to share what I have seen and photographed with friends and family. I always thought I would like to make money at it but was never successful the few times I tried. So I. Guess I shoot f or me.

Not at all a bad reason for taking pictures.

Another reason for me is that it keeps me thinking. Some situations offer a technical challenge - dealing with poor light, high dynamic range, etc. Sometimes I shoot just to see if I can figure out how to deal with a problem situation. This kind of shot rarely gets me a good photo, but that's not always the point.

I do it to create a visual record of how things were. I am not particularly artistic, I just want to record things as they were at a certain point in time. I have family photos that were done in the 1860's and forward from that time. How many people in their 70's can see what their great great grandparents looked like? I can and I want to carry on that tradition of leaving a visible memory for my descendants, and also photos of how we lived and where we lived. I am a history buff and feel a visual record is most important.

I like the question and I like the answers. They all fit very well in to my thoughts about why I shoot. I think, (I Know), that God has given each one of us the ability to see what most people don't! Being a photographer helps me to slow down in this fast paced world that we live in, and actually see the Vibrant Beauty around us, and to capture it and then show others what they miss, and to see in our own photos, "What We Missed" as well!

First, I enjoy it immensely. The very fact that I make photographs tends to make me really see people, places and things. I like capturing moments in time. I like photographers and I find them to be much like golfers in personality. I like the technology within photography, software and computers. When I catch that rare shot I giggle.

I laugh too. Seeing something beautiful in my viewfinder; I smile. Seeing it again when I download it allows me to remember that moment and I smile. Post processing it and finding the photograph within is so satisfying. Sharing it with others is wonderful.

Memories. The photos I take may not be the greatest, but they bring me memories of where I have been or things I have seen. I try to bring whatever interested me to others and hopefully they will enjoy them as much as I did taking the photos.

When I was about 12 or 13, a friend took me into his makeshift darkroom in his attic and made a small print. Watching a photo appear on white paper was like magic and I was hooked. I am now 85 and while I've slowed I still enjoy it. It is an artistic expression.

What got me into photography-cars. The 1st car I shot was
a Jag XKE back in 1964 at a Jaguar dealership in downtown
Houston, Texas, I was hooked. Family moved to So. Cal, there I started going to races, Indy car, Can-Am, Sportscar,
Drag Races, Stock car, F1 and Trans-Am. I loved them all.
