The "debt" ceiling is a misnomer! A ceiling represents a solid, immovable object. Washington elects to "raise" the amount of debt dependent upon the amount necessary to continue as a nation.
Think of a family relying upon credit card companies raising the "ceiling" on their cards. Comes a time when the ceiling is raised for the last time.
