WOW, the two of you in the same state, same city and even with extremely close proximity to each other. Is that like the forbidden rule of time travel like occupying the same space at the same time. I can feel the earth starting to SHUTTER now with the expectation. This may be like in "Colossus, The Forbin Project" when the American Super Computer realized there was a Russian Super Computer and they connected the two up. Things were never the same. I def respect both of your work and the advice you give here. I hope the meeting is enjoyable. Looking forward to you next posts.

BTW, on the topic of you other reply. One may, or may not like a certain piece of photography but I don't think you are an photographer in the true sense of the word if you try to restrict the many avenues of the artistry. I am certainly a big fan of any type of people photography, and although I joke about it once in a while, I would not like to REALLY be the one to tell people they cannot put pictures of birds out there. To tell you the truth, once in a while I fins them interesting.

Actually there are seven of us from here at UHH that will be meeting up for two days of shooting in Las Vegas next month. The first day will be a day in the studio with me working on some Old Hollywood Glamour style lighting with vintage fresnel lights and also some classic fashion / glamour portraits. The second day will be a day of shooting street portraits with Pale Pics AKA Russ ELkins on the streets of Las Vegas followed up by an evening session on retouching workflow that Russ uses to create is amazingly detailed high contrast street portraits.

I know I speak for all of us that will be meeting when I say that we are all really excited about this meeting of like minded individuals and the potential for the sharing of information and technique while creating some amazing photographs is immense. So stay tuned I am sure you will see many many photos from the gathering after June 17

I could not agree with you more about the importance of the photographer in society as a documentarian. I must say that those who practice this would recoil at referencing it as a fetish. Labeling it as a fetish supposes that it is rooted in sexuality and for all my research I can not find any references to it as being a sexual act. It is to those who practice it a very spiritual act.
You know where people get that crap from? By watching programs on tv such as "Taboo" on the National Geographic channel. They had an episode about this sort of thing portrayed as a fetish because the people engaging it were doing it out of the enjoyment of the pain that it brought them which, was conveyed as a fetish. So the masses watching it now believe that hooks in the body correlates to a weird sexual pleasure. Silly, but true.

Bobby, your work continues to amaze. . . . and I'm in full agreement with the idea of having a restricted access section of the forum that has the human figure as its primary focus and shows the undraped human figure. I believe such a section would add additional depth and dimension to this forum and would also be a great source of learning and ideas for those with an interest in this area of photography.

This topic might even be an interesting discussion while we are in Vegas - which is only three weeks from Monday (but who's counting).

Super interesting set. Not only do I like the series but am really pleased about the reception here. It always amazes me why some would tend to criticize image concepts presented in an artistic fashion but fail to do so when presented in a photojournalistic one. The hypocrisy of man is to judge intent not the act. The artist transcends such thought.
I would have been excited to photograph both the art or ritual of such an event.
I guess after spending some time in Thailand and seeing women pull razors from their "insides", the shock of this type of imagery has long since passed.
Sorry about the late response on this one really busy these last few weeks. The busy season.
I think I'll try and watch "A man called Horse" this weekend. It's been a long time.

Nice series....a great gift for the couple.

Hi Bobby - I just went to the internet search engine and typed your name in out of curiosity and up popped several sites under your name. I looked thru 4 or 5 of them and yup - it was you. And just as these pictures here show - you are a man of many photographic talents. I may only know you on here thru UHH but I do feel priviledged in having "met" you. You do incredible work that alot of us - me any how - would love to be able to do. Every photographer has his/her own little niche - pro and amateur - but you have several branches growing out from that niche and each branch shows a different side to your talents. Thank you for sharing with us here at UHH.

I don't even know how or where to pitch this idea but it truly surprises me that this forum lacks a section where adults can enjoy such a diverse genre of photography with such a long historical background.

Is there a forum here for pitching ideas?

Ohh I have been online for a long time so yea google has way more of me cataloged than is probably good for me. When it comes down to it though I am just another guy who loves photography and loves to teach and share. If anyone should be honored it should be me. Honored to have a gift I can share and honored to have people who are open and ready to receive what I bring with me. Honored to know that by sharing I also learn and grow. So thank you I look forward to getting to know you and your work.

Yes it was done in my studio and the white background is a simple matter of proper lighting. The particular technique used here has been described and charted in more than one of my initial threads here on UHH

Bobby,

The reason I asked about the white background was because they were suspended with stainless steel hooks, and I didn't expect you to have been able to suspend them in your studio. It was purely an innocent question thinking you were shooting someplace else and was curious about the stark white background which you commonly shoot. You must have some kind of hoist or block and tackle outfit in your studio. Thanks.

Yes - that's a good point - although your photos sort of imply that there is a relationship between the two and that this is a part of their relationship - that is why I used the term. But it is an odd form of - what? - spiritual play? I could see it being a part of spirituality if it were coupled with meditation, prayer, etc. Whatever - it is a very intriguing activity! Thanks for bringing it to us.

It the studio we were in at the time I shot these we set up a 12' tall steel rack with block and tackle. When I moved to the next studio I had a professional rigging company come in an rig a pulley system at 20' in the trusses that was rated to 1,800 pounds.

Keep in mind it matters not if the person is suspended a 1/2" off the ground or 3' off the ground the physical effect is the same. Once the feet leave the ground you are suspended
