Forgot the cross lighting. Great for showing texture.
As mentioned, shoot for textures with shadowy lighting - later convert to infrared monochromes ....(B&W). Don't be afraid to lay on the ground and angle towards the sky perspectives......take a polarizer and use it.
To everyone who replied I give my thanks.
Y'all (yep I am a southern boy) have helped me tremendously. I learned a lot from this post.
I spoke with our guide and he is familiar with New Orleans as we live in Mobile.
Bill Emmett the info you gave was thorough and fantastic.
Bill. after this trip I will make plans to come on a solo or with a friend and go visit some of the places you listed.
By the way do you know of any good spots around Mandeville or the Covington area. I travel to those areas every other week and I would like to shot some areas close by. I did shoot on the Lakefront 2 weeks ago and I just found Fountainbleau State park.
I just finished prepping my backpack and checking everything so I will be up and out the door early.
I will try to get some great shots as I complete the assignments he is giving us.
I really can't thank each of you enough for the ALL of the info that was provided.
Thanks,
BamaRick
Remember to use the foreground and background combined with the correct depth of field to isolate/frame a particular head stone. Also think perspective lines, vectors, and vanishing points. There can be lots of interesting converging lines in the negative space lining up the edges of head stones.
