It's hard to believe that you can watch a lathe cutting a piece of metal for almost nine minutes and remain mesmerized the whole time.

Got to admit...that was mesmerizing.
Did you ever see the video of a guy hand-crafting & machining a V-8 gasoline engine that was less than 6 inches long...and worked?

My bad...it's a V-12, not a V-8. Not in English but who cares.

still run manual lathe, at times, was starting to learn cnc machine 30 years ago. then lost my job at large machinery mfg. co. it was all timed work and always under the gun for production. got a new job the next day and been there ever since. i don't know if these "new way machinist" could run a manual lathe. its totally different. you don't just load it and push "start". mesmerizing video, thanks

the part you just saw cannot be done on a manual lathe. the amount of time needed to program such a part is mind boggling so you would not just do one part in a job shop and make any money with it. you would need several parts ordered to be able to make a profit. the trial and error for the program needs to be worked out as well. but never the less this is an amazing piece of work.

That is the kind of videos I like. The guy that designed it and the programmer have a lot of smarts.

That was quite an exercise in programming. I was taken by the ability of the head motors to move smoothly at the very slow speeds and in both directions. I noticed it was not leaded brass. I bet without the coolant spray the tools were trash. Form Grinding is crazy to watch also.

Used to set multi spindle machines in a previous life.
What was it making and how did it do without coolants?

This is exactly why I stayed in the business for 42 years. The most amazing thing to me is not so much the finished product but the programmers.
