Dear fellow hoggers, although I have a variety of standard mats in the usual sizes, you know, 8x10, etc., with the required openings, I often find the need to have a custom size opening. So, I thought I would investigate what it takes to start making my own (having it done is very costly).
That's where anyone out there with experience in this area could be of invaluable help. If you could please tell me what I would need in terms of equipment, etc., would be great. I would like a cutter that would allow me to make beveled cuts. Info such as model, make, cost, where to purchase would be super!!
Thanks in anticipation for any assistance you can give me..
Cheers, Monte
Check out models by Logan (they have instructional videos too), Leichtung and others, there are sooo many out there, one can not list them all here.
Check local artist supply store. Possible crafts store. Used an oak frame with straight edge and a hand tool. Have to offset 1/8" depending upon model but worked ten years for me.
Thanks for the contact, I'll look into it.

I'm thinking of something I can use to make the openings with, would that work for that purpose?

Need to mark the mat board with width. Might need an offset of 1/8, depending on position of knife. Use some cardboard for practice.
Check local framing shop for recommendations.
Thanks a lot for your time and input.

Logan 450-1. Straight or bevel cuts inside or out. Simple to use with 'production' stops for multiple mats. Got mine for 1/2 price with coupon at Michaels Arts and Crafts store. Get board via Amazon. With a little practice, a piece of cake.
I'd agree. The Logan 450 would be plenty adequate for most hobbyists. It should cut your cost significantly enough to pay for itself in short time. You should find one for a good price if you look around a bit. Consider Amazon or eBay.
There's a Michael's not too far away, and I often see coupons in the local paper, will sure ck into it.
Thanks for a great tip!
