This should start an argument but my vote would go to gregoryd45. the man does not have the latest and greatest equipment...he does very little pp....but he takes amazing photos. he has the best lens anyone could have......he has a keen photo eye.
I've never seen one of Gergory's shots.
And many don't seem to post, not to mention that styles can be very different.
We could divide it up into the PSA genres and use their rules, and have an outside panel of pro judges.
Then we'd know!
And it may well be Gregory!
But I agree, the equipment hasn't got any thing to do with it.

I can say without any hesitation that it is not me.

I don't think this question has ONE answer. Photography has so many smaller component parts - wildlife, macro, landscapes, portraits.............. and each of these subdivisions can be further divided.
If you visit the people photography forum, or the macro forum, or the birds in flight forum, etc. etc............you might come up with a different choice each time.
Often the really good photographers post their work the least. But when you visit their websites, their work can take your breath away.
I can't argue that gregoryd45 is a fantastic photographer but so is Swamp Gator
Somehow I don't think I like this thread, There are so many really good photographers that have such diverse tastes, I don't think there is just one who could be called the 'best'.

JC, you are right, Gregory does have some very nice shots.
And I'll agree, you and I are really good at BS. But you my man, are the champ. But I vow to give it my all, and get better!

Graham Smith, but you have to find his photos in the critique section.

Sharpie, with me in your corner, nobody's got a prayer. And I'm in your corner.

I love his subject matter, and the street scenes are great. Graham does fine work, but go to his site for the best shots.

I'm saying Cdouthitt's stuff is solid, maybe not the #1 photog on the Hog, but he deserves a shout-out.
Antonio Reyna, too.
Anand Mehta, too.
SharpShooter, too.
MTShooter, for some wildlife shots, especially with a lame D800e. (Really?!!)
David Pine, too.
Taking a quick look at "gregoryd45's" photos the birds are usually doing something, flying, hunting and his eye for composition is spot on.
There are several "photogs" here who show talent in several ways. To me, the true sign of a great photographer is their ability to "make" a photograph in the camera . Most anyone can go to national parks, landmarks, the seashore and come away with decent images. Put a great "imageographer" in a dead end alley and they will shine.

Each of us has to get out of our favorite photo genre and look at the work of others who specialize in a different area.
In no particular order, I suggest:
Tinusbum
fstop22
hangman45
PalePictures
Bobby Deal
CaptainC
Swamp Gater
weddingguy
bkyser
There are others and I apologize for their omission because I have not had a chance to examine their works as closely.

I concur with several on that list. Now I'm up to ten! favorites.
