Can you be more specific, maybe post the picture? What you use is somewhat dependent on what kinds of things they are. If you're wanting to get inlaws out of the picture, that's a different forum. (just kidding)

There are arms hanging on your house? Never mind, I don't want to know.

If you're using CS5, I recommend the Healing Brush with the Content Aware checked. I'm in love with this feature.

If you're using an earlier version, try taking your Marquee Tool and making a selection somwhere in the photo to use as a patch. You might need to do this a couple or more times. Now hit CTRL > J and put it in it's own layer. Hit CTRL > T for the free transform tool and move your patch to cover the errant arms or hose. Hit enter. Flatten your layers and go to work on the inlaws.

Try to clone from a similar area to mask the removed item.

this is going to sound snotty and I don't mean it to be so please don't take it that way....

The easiest way to remove things from a photo is to make sure they aren't there before you click the shutter button. It's a lesson I learned the hard way. Way to many images ruined by a house, trash, extra arm, etc. Simply look thru the view finder and take a mental note of anything that you might wish wasn't there, then ether move yourself, the subject or the offending item until you are happy with the image you are seeing in the viewfinder then click the shutter button. A few extra minutes taken before you take the picture can save you an hour infront of the computer screen.
