Come on all you red-blooded Americans - what are you going to do about it?
What would you suggest we do about it. We live in a free market capitalist society. That is how our country works because we are free.
What I would personally do is to not purchase these items. But that is just me.

All of this talk about the the 9/11 museum is very worthwhile. Since I haven't seen it, I'm really not in a place to comment one way or another. What I do find offensive, and it has nothing to do with political correctness, has to do with have an intelligent discussion without resorting to name calling and being insulting. It does nothing to further your case or validating your opinion. It just makes you look stupid. I'm not naming names, but you know who you are. I think the idea of a souvenir shop does sound distasteful, but I suspect there are other avenues to address peoples concerns about this other than a photography forum. Now before anyone goes off the deep end I realize that this part of Ugly Hedgehog is supposed to be on other topics, but still find it an odd place to discuss political issue when we are all interested in photography.

Good idea, They probably still have the real bone fragments they found on the roof of the Deutsche Bank Building. Real bone fragments would sell for much more than replicas. If sales are good they can excavate the Fresh Kills landfill where they dumped the mother lode of bone fragments.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/06/nyregion/06remains.html?_r=0Think they should start the sale with your old bones, but then who would want any?
When do we reach the point when it is o.k. to sell souvenirs at such places? They have a gift shop at he Alamo, and a lot of men died there, either in battle, or by execution after the battle. I suspect there are numerous gift shops in business at Pearl Harbor.

My parents were in Hawaii and visited Pearl Harbor, Mom said she was so disgusted at the war ppl were acting. She was especially angry at the Japanese who were laughing. But, it is their vacation, I guess I can see it both ways.

Well when you've been a member for a bit longer perhaps your opinion as to how this forum should work will gain more credibility

I suspect Oregon would love to reject your bones from an otherwise savvy state.

Wow, I didn't realize that being new to the forum had anything to do with credibility. Based on some of the feed back you have been getting on your comments I'm not sure your tenure on this forum means anymore than my newness. I think before you conclude anything about a person you need to pay attention to their words. I suspect what I said may have struck a nerve.

I was in Hawaii back in the 60 while in the Navy. The Japs all but owned Hawaii then so no wonder they were laughing, laughing at the idiocy of Americans for giving the concessions to them. Hasn't changed a lot since then. Now China is taking control of our products, sales and in some cases land. We do not seem to learn from the past. Hope and Change I guess.

With all due respect to your thoughts (as I have the same thoughts) I think it depends on what the souvenir happens to be. I doubt I will ever get to the 9-11 Museum but if I did I might purchase a T shirt saying, America Forever with an American flag on the front, something like that. I might purchase a replica of the USS Arizona if I ever get to Pearl Harbor and if they have such a thing for sale. I would purchase that type of souvenir. I would not buy a souvenir T shirt from the Alamo with, Mexicans 1-Texicans 0 on the front. Nor would I buy a T shirt at Hiroshima or Nagasaki saying America Won WW2. It is the type of souvenir that is respectful or not in my opinion.

Not going to happen, I'm too self centered for that, going to be cremated.

Along those lines, we visited the 9-11 memorial a couple of years ago early one Saturday morning. Very somber, as it should be.....except for the large number of foreigners who we're treating it like a trip to an amusement park......think "2Flags over Manhattan".
It was a place of reflection, of remembering.

It,s called capitalism or something close anyway. Not always right but legal and profitable. The profitability is what counts, not the morals.
To me the sadder aspect of the post is that so many people will but this stuff...
No buyer, no seller....
