Canon T4i/T5i vs 60D

I just upgraded from a Rebel XSi to the 60D and can't be more pleased. I like the larger body and the quick access to most of the controls that I need. I really don't think you could go wrong with either option, but I like the "heavier" camera that is more sealed since a lot of my pictures are taken in a dusty environment.

I have a 60D and am very pleased with it. I like the articulated LCD screen because it makes it possible to take pictures at angles that might be hard to get otherwise. Such as pictures of ceilings. With the 60D, you can aim the lens toward the ceiling and then turn the LCD screen so you can see and then just snap the picture. This method can be used when taking pictures of something down low.

Don't know anything about the other camera. But if you want to be able to take pictures at odd angles, go for the 60D or the 70D.

All of the modern Canon lenses will fit any of these cameras. The -s lenses will not fit a full frame camera (without extensive modification) and the pre automatic Canon lenses will not fit modern Canon cameras, without an adapter. Otherwise the statement is completely false.

The 60D is a very good camera and priced very well today as it is being replaced by the 70D.

What you just said is what I meant to say.
Please accept my apologies.

I'm trying to help a friend with a new camera purchase and he wants to keep his expenditure under $800. He wants to stay with Canon. In looking at the possibilities for a "kit" under $800, it seems two possibilities are the T4i/T5i (essentially the same camera I think with minor differences) or the Canon 60D. Both cameras seem to have very similar specs for images and video, but the less expensive T4i(T5i) seems to actually have some things in its favor. For example, the T4i uses the Digic 5 processor, whereas the 60D uses the Digic 4 processor (Not sure I know the real difference, but I know the Digic 5 is newer). Also, the T4i has built-in stereo mic for stereo sound. With the 60D you would need an external mic for stereo. They both use the same 18MP sensor, so that's a wash. They re not drastically different in price.

Just curious to hear other UHH opinions if choosing between these tow cameras (T4/5i or 60D) and why.

Have had the 60D for a couple of years now, and I don't think I would upgrade to full frame anytime soon. The low light capability, heavier, better sealed body, and articulating screen for difficult angle shots are a few of the reasons I would give the 60D a shot. I also put a battery grip on mine for grip and extra battery life. Look at B&H for used, as you could get camera and a couple of kit lenses for close to this price of ~700.00.

Be careful of getting a non USA model...USA will Not work on them(imports). That is what 42 sells...look at the wording or call & ask! Go to canon refurbished and get a refurbished anything with a full 1 year warranty. They come in looking like new at a discounted price!

B&H has them for $939.00, just a little over $900.00.

Basil, why not look at a used 7d. You could find one for about $650, or less, and it will outshoot them both, plus hold a decent little value.
You could get a used, cheap zoom like the 35-80 for less than $100 and possibly a 50 1.8 to go along with it.
Just an idea. Good luck. ;-)

If buying used, and going by how much the shutter count is, what's a reasonable shutter count-rather what would be considered too high a shutter count when shopping for used? Thanks!
