There was a news report the first Union Graves were placed on Lee's property last week 150 years ago. My 2013 travels included a few trips to the cemetery, the first since my grandfather was buried in 2003.

I believe it was prior to Sandy, that the Honor Guard was given permission to suspend duty and every man refused, enduring hours of rain and wind.

GrayPlayer - I always think about those guys walking guard when the public isn't present. I've seen documentaries but still wish I could do my own in pictures.

Thank you phlash46. I lived in DC at the time of his passing and was there for the ceremony of the burial a few weeks later. His grave was an open section at the time that is now filled.

Great shots ! Arlington National Cemetery is a special place for all Americans. It should be a mandatory trip for all school students . Thank you to your grandfather for his service to our country !

Thanks JIMP. The capture with the flag goes back to this weekend in 2008. The news this weekend said it takes a team about 3 hours to place flags at all the graves.
