These are photos taken at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines Iowa of the signature piece "Nomade" by artist Jaume Plensa. First installed at Antibes overlooking the french riviera, the 27 foot tall sculpture toured several different locations before finding a permanent home in Des Moines, it's nearly identical to a piece titled "House of Knowledge" at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Yorkshire, England by the same artist. Enjoy.

Great shots of an unusual sculpture. I can't imagine building that, let alone imagining it.

The rules for the sculpture park here are - no climbing on any sculpture by any one at any time. When I look up the one in Yorkshire on-line they say visitors are encouraged to climb on this particular one. So is that the difference between here and England? Is it about liability issues or something else? You be the judge. Technically though, the 25 or so sculptures in this park are owned by a private individual, the one the park is named for. He used to have them on his property. Thanks for looking and commenting Jerry.

If we could think of these things we'd be artists making a ton of money instead of amateur photographers taking pictures of them.

Looks like I need to spend some time looking around in DsM again!
One of my sons has taken some pics of the Pappajohn area too.

Very interesting. Your inside-to-out shot is great.

It's become a cool place. They hold the Des Moines Art Festival in this 2 block area surrounding it. Some of this country's best artists come here for it. I went last year to check out the photographers booths but I gotta say most of the photographers were really on the far side. Very strange photos.

Thank you Linda. That one is my favorite of all I took there, and the one I had been thinking of taking for a couple of months. I had a free day to shoot and was in the city mainly to try to shoot a cityscape, but couldn't pass up the opportunity for this one. I knew I wanted to have a nice deep blue sky when I was taking it. Sometime this summer I'd like to go back and take some photos of the sculpture at night when they are all lit up. There is one sculpture there that is a circle of glass panels, about 30 feet in diameter, each panel a different hue, all of them together completing the range of colors of the rainbow, and it's lit from the inside.

Great series, do you have any idea how it got it's name?

I wish I knew that, but I don't. You know artists. He probably had a reason for naming it as he did but perhaps only he knows the answer.

Cool! What an imagination the creator has. I love all the different POV you used.
