I have an Epson R3000, like to have an Epson 3880.

I have a canon pro 100 and love it. It has taken my images up about two steps.
Only downside is that the ink cost is really high, about $17 per cart. and it has eight.
I have been looking for a Ciss and there is none available. Love the printer.
I've been using Staples for ink. You get credits on your rewards card AND Canon ink qualifies for any of there coupon specials. That helps a lot.

Blue, unless Epson has updated its latest printers, you can't alternately use matte papers(art papers) and semigloss/pearl/gloss papers without completely draining the black ink lines, which is very wasteful. The Epsons do a good job, but they are no better and have less inks. I routinely use Epson 3800, 3880's and the 24" models at school.
My Canon is more versatile.
If you shoot with a Canon, it's even a better seamless system, as you can print directly from raw or tiff's, as well as other formats. Good luck. ;-)

Forgot to mention that my local Staple stores only stock the full boxes of 8 cartridges for $124.99. To get individual colors you have to go online but shipping is usually fast and free. You might want to check your local store to be prepared ahead of time.
No advice, but a question for you, Bluedong. Just how did your dong get blue? :XD:

Changing the cyan ink my guess

A word of advice ONLY if you have an Apple computer. Most printer manufacturers focus their attention on Windows OS for the obvious reason of number of Windows PC users. An Apple owner may have trouble installing new printers software unless specified by the manufacturer that the product is compatible with the particular Apple OS. Printer manufacturers often "forget" mentioning incompatibilities of that nature.

JJ, you are correct in that.
I'm eluding to the fact that before it can switch, it has to completely drain the previous black from the ink line, then refill the complete line with the new Blk, then repeat that when you switch papers again.
I realize that many only use one paper and will never switch colors.
Also one can economize by printing as much as possible between switches in Blk colors.
Don't get me wrong, the 3880 is a good printer. And there was a time when Epson was the only game in town, hence their lasting popularity. But those days are long gone, and I personally would not buy one till they change their print head technology and solve the entire problem.
I assume Canon has solved it by going to two separate heads on the big printers. Maybe it's patented, don't know. Happy printing. ;-)

Take a look at lexjet.com They sell a variety of printers, geared mostly towards the commercial side.
Sorry for the late posting; I've been away. I too use the Canon medium format printers, both the 9500 Mk II and Pixma Pro 1 (couldn't resist it at the price: printer and 50 sheets of very nice 13x19 paper for $100 equals FREE!) . Both are utterly reliable (as opposed to the equivalent Epson models) and print beautiful images, but I'm beginning to understand why they offered the deal: you have to use Canon ink, and it's pricey as hell! I see that Amazon is selling a refill kit, but without instructions. I tried that route before on Epson cartridges and it was quite messy, so i'm hoping a UHHer has done it on the ones by Canon with better results. The item is 'ND® 8 x 100ml Ink Refill Kit for Canon CLI-42 PIXMA PRO-100 + Refill Syringes'. Thanks in advance for your replies.
Just wanted to add a little information regarding the cost of printer inks in case you didn't already know. I only buy original canon inks for my Pro 9000 mark ii ( which I love by the way). I used to buy them on Amazon because that was where I could find the best price. I went to Staples the other day because I was in a pinch and couldn't wait on a shipment from Amazon. When I told the cashier that I usually buy my inks elsewhere she said they will match anyone's lowest advertised price. When I told her it was Amazon she said it didn't matter. They will match Amazon's prices as well. The only stipulation is that the inks on Amazon have to say "Sold and shipped by Amazon". They will not match the price if the inks are being sold on amazon by a 3rd party seller. The inks I showed them that day on Amazon were all sold and shipped by Amazon so they matched the prices and I saved myself about $30.00 that day. I'm not sure we're you all buy your inks but you might want to give it a try if you want to save some money.
Phil, the only problem is, that staples, at least my local store only carries about 5 colors, so for several of them, I still need to go elsewhere. ;-)

Yep- Epson printers are rock solid.
