Part of the requirement is that the photos be printed for each person immediately, not after 10-15 photos. So currently I am exchanging the cards after each 2-3 shots, depending on the work flow.

CamRanger, EyeFI, or cable tether.

Does anyone know how many insert/pull cycles to expect with SD cards? I am concerned about the camera slot wear for a situation where the cards need to be replaced repeatedly for a shoot and print situation.

Most of my cards are over six years old, so have been pulled out and stuck back in the camera thousands of times, I never encountered any problems.

I have a CamRanger for my Nikon D90 and I absolutely love it. With the CamRanger I can take more than 3 bracketed shots. I am a Real Estate Photographer and being able to take more than 3 bracketed shots is a definite plus and I can put my camera in places I couldn't before I got the CamRanger. Yes my camera is a bit old, but it's the glass and the photographer that makes most of the difference.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. but if you can get the wifi set up and working right it would be faster than the other options mentioned.

Just as an update for any interested- I could not find any manufacturer willing to comment on card slot wear.

Not willing? Or not able to? If you are worried, just use the USB cable others have mentioned. If you feel your camera mfg is hiding something from you, then consider switching brands. If they all won't share this info, consider it part of owning a camera---like with a car, if it wears out, fix or replace it.

Your post topic says "memory card wear", but the card is not what you are concerned about, right? It's really the camera card slot... I say wear the crap out of it. When it finally breaks, replace your camera---it will be obsolete at this point. :-)

The WiFi solution is also something I was thinking about.
I would need to set up a LAN in order to do that, but it would probably be the more elegant solution. The printer/computer was not close enough to the shooting location for a cable connection.
I will need to experiment with an Eye-Fi card. It is also not something I expect to be doing very often.

You say you aren't going to be doing this very often, so why worry about it? There are no pins to bend or break on an SD card. It uses slide contacts and the odds of them wearing out are pretty darn slim. For every horror story about failed cards there are probably 10,000 cards that didn't fail. Nobody talks about those. The odds are on your side. I suggest you do your shooting and not worry about it.

Yes, it appears to be a non-issue. Thanks for the suggestions. I consider this a dead topic at this point.
