Black and White Film negatives from the 1920's

I have searched UHH for this topic but have not found an answer that will get the job done that I want to get done. I have a number of black and white film negatives from the time period of 1920-----1960. I want to print these negatives into 4x6 or 5x7 black and white photo's. I see UHH cautions use of standard vendors such as Walgreens CVS et. Can anybody tell me a vendor that does this and does not charge an arm and a leg. I have search the internet and found what was familiar to me as a teenager but I am in my late 70's and do not want to tackle this on my own. Also I want a vendor that someone on UHH has tried and will recommend. Thank you

Depending on how many you have......Spend $99 or so on the Epson direct website (free shipping & NO sales tax) and buy a refurbished V500 scanner. Scan the negatives into digital files and print them yourself. You can do alot with that scanner. Google "scanography" and have some fun.

Just print them yourself! You can set up a contact print You would just have to buy print developer and fixer. And you will have fun watching the prints develope. You can do a search to find out how or shoot me a PM and I will walk you through it. After you have your contact prints you can scan them and print any size you want. - Dave

The Epson V 500 is a good unit, up to medium format (6.85cm on the short side). What size do you have?

Here is a link to a film processing spreadsheet I posted a while back. Although I only included film processing data, all listed vendors also make prints from negatives. You can go to the individual websites linked in the spreadsheet and compare prices there.

You might check with Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, Kansas. Phone #'s are:
620-421-3940, or toll free 800-522-3940.

Have been around a long time (and, was the last lab to develop Kodachrome). From what little I've seen, they listen well and do a very good job.

I still print from old negatives, just send me a PM and let me know what you think is reasonable.

If you're not interested in buying scanners or printing yourself, and it doesn't sound like you are, buy a copy of Shutterbug Magazine and check the adds. You'll find a number of quality printers who do just the kind of work you're looking for.

I'm fixing to do(maybe) the same thing, except it will be an 8 x 10 foot print. Just sent an email to 'The Darkroom'.com, about making a super scan from the old negative. We'll see what they have to say.

Thank you for all the help. What I see is this is an expensive venture. I have come to the conclusion I will probably look for a scanner that will do the job and then get the prints from theses files. Again thank you all for the help. It is appreciated,

I just purchased a Canon 'CanoScan' 4800 x 9600 resolution scanner off Ebay for $35.00. Has the negative, and slide scanner attachment.

It's an LiDE 600F, looks like it just does slides, and 35mm negatives/positives. And, of course photos. It may, or may not do more. I'm just interested in doing the 35mm's, and photos, so should work fine for me. I'll research more when it arrives.
