Went to the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Waimea on the Big Island yesterday but the blossoms had dwindled with few left on the trees to our disappointment. Took very little photos, none of which turned out very well but I will post one of the snow at Mauna Kea Summit where our Space Observatories are located. Also, a few shots of today's sunset in Honaunau, Hawai'i. If you are not familiar with the islands I can tell you a few things. Hawai'i as you know is the name of our state but it is also the name of our Island which is synonymous with "Big Island." Aloha everyone.

Spectacular sunset shots, Ric. Is that snow in HI?

It is, "Paradise"!!!
Even, Snow!
Pat
Yes it is. And it was sooo cold this morning in Honaunau 52 degrees lol.
Yes it snows on 2 mountains on the Big Island, rarely 3. It's also a nice drive up 13K ft. to the summit. Love the view of the sunsets from up high, not to mention the fisheye view of the islands below.

When my wife & I were there a number of years ago, the rental car company told us not to drive the up between the two mountains. They said it's foggy often and there are types of drivers up there. Fast driving kind and the slow driving kind. They don't mix well up there in the fog.
Well, maybe, they just didn't want us up there....
The fog, is that true up there islandric?
Pat
Aloha Pat, Yes to fog can get really thick up on Saddle Road, the one that goes between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea to join Kona on the west side to Hilo on the east. This road has been updated to make it safer and to bypass Pohakuloa Army Base allowing for better security there I suppose. There's a rest stop with bathrooms along the way near the Army Base. I wouldn't worry about bad drivers on this road because now they are everywhere. Just drive safely and observe everything that moves near your car lol. Aloha for now....islandric
Sending you this sunset from tonight. I wanted to take more pics but I had company at my heels.
2.6.12 Honaunau Sunset tonight
Aloha, I hope you get to return here on day too. Winter is the best time climate wise. Here is a zen shot I did today of our sunset in Kona. Taken from my balcony at home in Honaunau Kona, Hawai'i

Those Pacific sunsets are breathtaking!
Thankyou for your nice comment. Not much of a sunset today as the sun decided to hide behind clouds. But the pink and blue colours were dramatic. I zoomed in for this zen shot, simply water and sky...kinda makes you think. I normally like to have more content in my shots but I've been taking a few of these lately.
