Was fortunate enough to attend the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby this year. Below are some shots from The Oaks :)
We were planning to go but the "new rules" did not allow DSLR cameras with lenses longer than 6 " or something like that so we said the heck with it. Good shots!
Thanks! You can't take any DSLR :( These were taken with a point and shoot. Not my camera of choice but only option.

And your p&s did just fine, didn't it? Congratulations. I have no sympathy for folks who pass up events just because they can't take their gazillion dollars' worth of toys with them, carried mostly to impress those around them. I see people at events carrying probably all the equipment they own, but hardly ever using any of it. It's there, though, banging into people and taking up unnecessary space.
Lovely shots. Gonna make it there one of these days.

The first one could be a great picture.
Please try to straighten up the columns on it and the second one. It will make the true angle the horses are on around the turn more true and reinforce the sense of speed.
Or you could level the rail.

I wonder if that is zoomed in or out...
I wonder if they have men or women to estimate the length (sorry...the devil made me suggest it).
The first image was a great shot. What p&s camera did you use and at what focal length? How close were you?
Love it!! When I was a kid I bought my first good camera a Minolta SRT201 (so you know how old I am). I wanted to get some stop action shots so I had somebody drive me to the race track. After a few races and taking shots at the finish line two detectives brought me to the State Police Office at the track where the big man opened my camera took the film and told me to go home and never come back. I laughed all the way home as they got the blank roll I had just put in. The other roll in my back pocket produced some really cool shots!
Nice shots, regardless of camera used. Being from KY originally and with family in Lexington I appreciate seeing the pics.
You captured TWO great shots!!
Lucky you! Beautiful shots, Katie!
