I dropped all my paper subscriptions and got them on my Nook HD+ from Barnes and Noble. Doesn't save money but does save space, it is truely amazing how many magazines a 32GB micro SD card holds. Also the pictures look so much better on screen. Now if they will just change the Nook for PC App so it shows all the pictures in "Magazine View" instead of the "Article View" where you only get the first picture (and it is small) I could read them on my 22" monitor, and watch how fast I would buy a 27" or larger Dell Ultra Sharp monitor.

I know we've discussed this topic before, but I have something to add. I've decided not to renew Pop Photo and Outdoor Photographer when they expire. When a new issue arrives, I skim through it and add it to the pile, thinking I'll get back to it another time. I never do.

I recently went through Pop Photo, and ripped out all the ads. What had begun as a magazine with 95 pages wound up as a 50-page magazine. Of course, I'm paying just $12.00 a year, but if all I do is skim and pile these things, why bother? I'll use that money to buy a new lens - eventually. :D

Check your credit card statements, bet they are auto renewing you. Had it happen to a couple of mags I got through my daughter's girl scout sales. The third party subscription service the scouts sold through just kept renewing them.Didn't end until I called, yelled etc. and on one I had to ask BofA to put a block on payment and change my debit card number.

I never re-subscribed but they keep sending it anyway.
I might glance at it for a couple minutes but mostly I just throw it away.
The few stories and tips it does have always seem to be about post processing images as opposed to how to take better pictures.
But that's no surprise since virtually all the ads are for various computer imaging programs.

Photo magazines these days are close to worthless.

With online access, I check everything every day. I can't imagine going back to once a month paper statements.

I also been getting mine free for years. It's a Canon magazine because they do the most advertising. If you just want to try a magazine pay by check so they don't have your credit card number.

No I'm not on auto renew on this mag, no charges on my CC and in fact the initial sub wasn't even paid for by CC.
It just keeps coming.

I get PPA, it is on my bag, on the plane, I usually go though it from cover to cover. Once in a while someone sitting next to me notices the GREAT photos in the mag and start a conversation which ends up me presenting my card. Have not goten a shoot from it BUT. One exchange was with the set production manager for the Black, Eyed Peas on his way to set up the Centeral Park Concert. Still waiting for that call back (see picture below!!)

If you are a CANON user you might find this worth looking at. 100% CANON EOS, not to many adverts, bi-monthly publication available as an online version (though I get print). Since subscribing to this I've ditched all other high street mags.

Having learned that lesson the hard way more than once, I pay for magazine subscriptions only by check.

[quote=CHOLLY]I love them all. Can't wait to get them.

Read them cover to cover, usually in 1 or 2 "sittings" if you catch my drift. ;)

TMI but Clever...don't you find your legs going numb?

I hyave just cancelled all but one subscription. Most are very repeditive. (I know, they have to cater for new photographers) Sods Law of course though. As soon as I have cancelled, two of them come up with articles that interest me. Now I will only buy if there is something in particular that I want. I know I@ll end up paying a higher price per item, but let's see how it balances out over a year. It will take a while to pay for a new lens out of it though Jerry.

Are you sure The publishers often sell their renewal list to a service which sends a post card. The small print says they are going to charge your credit card on such and such a date unless you call the 800 number and cancel. I had several do that and its a pain in the neck - the post card looks, to me, like something to go in the trash as I'm looking thru my mail.

There are 2 stores in our town that have an extensive magazine section that usually includes 6-8 photo magazines. I go into these stores regularly and check out the photo magazines. If I see something that I like, I buy the magazine. In a year, I might buy 2-4 in total, usually different as opposed to the same magazine. Saves me a lot of money.
