Inventing a Failure

I am posting this from a reliable source, from an intelligent man who I respect. This is not meant to start a name calling insult match, but to inform people who are open minded to read the truth about what is going on with Obama Care. I know it's not perfect and it had a rough start. It still could use some improvement. But this is about the reality of having some sort of program that actually did pass. The BOTTOM LINE of what is important is that people are getting health care that need it...
I think we all sometimes forget that we are talking about people getting help...not whether a Democrat or Republican score points or put their nemesis down.

From The New York Times:

OP-ED COLUMNIST: Inventing a Failure

Republicans’ response to health reform’s success is to close their eyes and sling bad statistics.

This is a good article but you're going to get a lot of flak if things run true to pattern. I'm not on the ACA but not many are on UHH. They're on Medicare. It's far from perfect, but a step in the right direction. I've had ppl tell me that they are thrilled that they finally have insurance for the first time in their lives. I have friends who refuse to get the ACA because Obama is president. These are owners of small businesses. I hope they don't get sick.

FOX featured commercials of people on the ACA who complained of nothing except the doom and gloom they were going through. These ads were funded by the Koch brothers, investigated and found to be false. Did FOX ever apologize, never!

This is purely partisan and it's a shame it has to be. Thank you for posting. :)

Thanks Donna. I know you a reasonable person from reading your posts and I think we probably agree on most of these issues.
I know I'm being naive, but I just wanted to present a viewpoint that many on the hog are not exposed to...you never know...

Really? Did you read the NYT editorial lambasting the President on Foreign Policy? Not anywhere close to "being in his packet" the was Fox is with the GOP.

And, since I haven't posted this jog in over 4 days....

Actually, of the 8 million signed up, how many were signed up that didn't have healthcare before? I know that my son had to sign up, but the healthcare plan he had went away so he had to sign up again. Ted Kennedy was so excited before he died that the poor would finally get healthcare. The ACA does not provide healthcare to the poor, except through expanded Medicaid....and in a few years states will have to pick up the cost if they bought into it. The actual beneficiaries were those who were denied coverage due to prior illnesses. These people could have been covered without overhauling the entire system....but that's what this was all about in the first place....power, not altruism.

That was enlightening - though not all together unexpected. You and we (U.K.) both seem to be suffering from an overload of 'Professional Politicians'. People who can pick up a tome, leaf through it and quote the bits of it that favour thier standpoint. These people will cost us both dearly in the long term.

As for OBAMACARE, I don't fully understand it but I do know it's no NHS (paid for out of a gross salary deduction variable with wage). As I've said in other posts, it works for us. It has it's faults (political meddling being one) and it's certainly not everyones solution.

I'm curious though - when U.S. tourists visit the U.K. do they get separate travel insurance in case they suffer an unfortunate incident, as we do when we visit the U.S? I've heard of incidents whereby tourists (genuine tourists - not the free loading 'health tourists') have got treatment for say, a twisted ankle, and found it impossible to pay for that treatment.

I've no problem with that - just wish it was reciprocal.

Mostly I've ignored it, but seems to me that, so far, most of those signing up are actually replacing what was taken from the. Most of the newly insured for the first time seem to be going into Medicade.

The problem is the pain never came!

Ditto re the mass article.

The articles you cite were pre launch and during the first months of the launch fiasco. Once sorted out most really like OBamacare!

Even the GOP is backing down now and saying lets see how we can tweek it to make it better.

As for the first article from the Times it is actually reporting what happened and is happening.

My grandson had a pre existing heart condition and can now get reasonable insurance coverage.
