You may wish to consider the new Sigma 24-105mm f/4 lens. Reviews rate it better than the Canon version of this focal range.

Could use some opinions to help make up my mind. I bought a 70D last year and a short time later picked up the EF24-70mm f/4 L. In March I just couldn't turn down a deal offered by B&H on a 6D with the EF24-105mm f/4 L. They are both excellent lenses. I plan to sell the 70D. I am aware of the whole "spare body" concept, but I know me. The 6D does everything I want and the 70D will sit on the shelf gathering dust. I am inclined to sell the 24-70 even though it is almost brand new. Can anyone give me any reason why I should keep it since I also have the 24-105, or why I should sell the 24-105 and keep the 24-70? I also have a 35mm L, 17-40mm L, and 70-300mm L, so, up to 300mm I am fairly well covered I believe. Thanks for your responses.

I know that there is good glass available from other sources besides Canon, but to be honest, except for a 150-600 (I can't remember who makes it) I've never considered anything but Canon. A personality quirk, I guess. Thanks for your input just the same.

I have the 24-105 and it is more useful because of the longer length. This gives you more options as a walk around. I also have this lens on the 70D. Both are excellent, but the 105 may help eliminate another lens.

I owned the 24-105 for several years; shot it with my 6D. When I purchased my 5D3, I assessed my total kit and read many, many reviews on lenses in general and decided to sacrifice the extra reach of my 24-105 for the reported improved optical performance of the 24-70 /4.

I have had the 5D3 and the 24-70 /4 now for approx a month and I couldn't be more pleased. Both 24-70 and 24-105 are great lens. Simply put, the 24-70 /4 version has improved performance all around. I also have the 70-300 L which compliments the 24-70 perfectly for my needs. I HIGHLY recommend the 24-70 /4.

Thank You. I'll most likely end up keeping both and carry whichever one I think will best suit what I want to shoot that day. I'm just a sucker for a pretty lens! (A lot less expensive then being a sucker for a pretty face!).

The 24-105 is a clear winner in my book. Sharp as a tack with a nice "walk around range!

Once again, Thanks everyone for your responses. The main reason, aside from the overlap, that I had for possibly selling one of the lenses is that I will be selling my 70D and felt it would sell quicker with a lens. Now I'm not so sure I want to sell either one. I'll probably just sell the 70D the same way I bought it, as a body only.

LFingar myself I would not sell the 70D for the simple reason if one camera breaks down you still have shooting power while the other one is being repaired. The 70D will also give you that extra reach with your 70-300 lens attached like a 112-480mm lens. I myself use 18-135mm lens on one camera and my 70-300mm lens on the other camera and it turned out to be very handy a lot of times. That extra reach really comes in handy when shooting animals plus trying to change a lens it takes time and you end up missing the shot....Rich

Thank You, but knowing the way I am it will most likely end up sitting on the shelf until it is worth about 1/3 of what it is now and then I will end up giving it away. Most likely I will sell it now while I can get a decent price and then use the money to buy more new toys! :D

The 150-600 is a Tamron and I'm selling off a few things to buy one. Unfortunately I can't find a seller that actually has one to sell at this time.

It seems to be the Bigfoot of lenses. Everyone has heard stories but few have ever actually seen one! It is the one non-Canon lens that I have an interest in.

I was reading advise about ones lens kit on kenrockwell.com last night. He recommended to buy good high quality lenses and not to overlap in mm coverage. For example, he said have a fast 35mm or 50mm for low light and normal lighting and a 70-200 for longer shots.

If you need to cover the resulting gap he recommends you just take a few steps forward or back. He also mentioned that most people rarely shoot over 135mm IIRC. I found that interesting, but might be some truth to it. Good food for thought though.

I agree with this gentleman. I had the 24-70 2.8L and the 24-105 4.0 L lenses and I always used the 24-105 because of the greater reach. Finally sold the 24-70 which was probably a sharper lens. I am a huge fan of the 24-105. Wish Canon would make a 24-120 like you know who. When I shot Nikon that was my favorite lens.

I'm in the same boat. I have no intention of buying non-canon lenses other than this particular one. If it ever becomes available again.
There were a few out there some months ago and they got good reviews. Then I saw some rumors of people have AF issues and then.....the lens seemed to disappeared from the real world.
Leads one to suspect that Tamron is holding off shipping more lenses until the AF problem is resolved.

It all depends on how you plan to use the lens. I have the 24 to 105 and use it all the time for weddings and portraits.

I've learned to stay away from weddings! I'm already up to Wife - Ver 3.0! Or, as I also refer to it: "You're stuck with me now. I'm too old to be housebroken by anyone else" :D
