I totally agree with you. I still have an "obsolete" 50D which is still a workhorse that takes great pictures, sans video capability which I have never used on my Canons that do shoot video. But the 7D is the king of the crop sensor cameras. It is for serious shooters. This image was taken with the 7D and 24-105 L lens.

I would grab the 7D, and not look back. The 7D is made to take a licking, and keep on shooting. Since this camera is a little over 5 years old, and still the king of Canons crop sensor line-up should tell you something. I bought my copy from B&H as a refurbished, it has never let me down. Mated to Canons "L" quality glass it will astound you with the quality, speed, and clarity of the images. Even mounted with Tamrons SP (high quality) glass the camera will make you a believer. It is a bit heavier than the 70D, and not as packed with useless features of the 70D, you will know you have a camera in your hand that will get the job done, and done well. If you want to try another great body, but without video, but the same feel try the now obsolete 50D. This camera was, and still is a workhorse in my stable. I do own a 6D, for its full frame capabilities, but it feels like I've got a toy in my hand when shooting it. Now, if your just out shooting snaps and walk-about shots, your T1 should do the job, just get some Canon "L" quality glass, you'll be surprised at the images.
I would grab the 7D, and not look back. The 7D is... (show quote)

I must admit, it would be hard to beat that for Depth Of Field! :D

Antonio has an excellent way of making a point and also insuring that nobody else's brain functions well enough to disagree.

OK, I'll bite. Why would the 7D be considered the king of Crop cameras? To me it is surpassed in several areas by the 1D Mark lll which I believe is a crop camera too. Or is there some knowledge I am lacking?

Technically, it was not a full frame. However, it does not take EF-S lenses, only EF lenses, so it is neither here nor there. More of a full frame than a crop, but neither. I am looking to get a used one. Here in LA there put up some good looking bodies for a low price, on Craigslist.

You are right, though they are different levels of cropping (1.3x vs 1.6x). The ID Mark IV should really be considered the king of APS-H.

It is a great camera, lightning fast. A good friend of mine had one. Can't be beat for action.

With your skills, see if you can pick up a 1DX... and I think it might change your life. ;)

I have been considering upgrading my DSLR body from the canon t1i to the Canon 7D. The review of the 7D are excellent and all of my lenses are for the crop sensor. I could really use the faster processing speed. But is it worth the extra weight of over 200 grams.

When I switched from the 10D to the T1i it was an easy and worthwhile change. But is this upgrade worth the extra $$.

Thoughts??

I've had the T2i now for a little over 5 years. I think it's a great camera, and still using it today for 80% of my work. 3 years ago I went to photograph eagles. I was told I would leave with "lens envy" as I only have the 400mm f/5.6 Well, after 9 hours, I left with "body envy". I had the T2i, shooting RAW under the best conditions was 3 fps. The 2 guys flanking me each had 7Ds. They were at 8fps. That second processor makes a world of difference. I use my 7D sparingly to save the shutter count, but it's used for all fast action.

The T3i is the exact same camera as the T2i. I was thinking of getting one just to have when the T2i finally quits. Everything I have, including battery grip, will still work. Your stuff from the T1i might also be usable on the T3i.

I just looked at B&H, and new today is a sell on the 7D. I don't know if you are aware of this or not. It's $200 off, down to $1,299. The main reason I bought mine was because it was on sale for $1,250. It really is a great camera. There's a reason it was introduced 50 years ago and still in production.

This sale price includes a free extra battery and a 16 Gb compact flash card.

Good answer, I've been shooting the 60D for 1 year now and can see no need to upgrade. Also I shoot two school football teams each year with no problem.

I feel like I'm taking the discussion in the wrong direction, but FYI I have a slightly used 60D which I'm willing to sell for $500. I upgraded last year to a 70D, a small but enjoyable upgrade.

I have lived with a 50D as backup for over a year now and recommend it highly - especially if money matters - just as heavy as the 7D though - $350-400. Focus calibration is a big deal with longer lenses !
