On the top right side, of the LR window, click on the word "Develop" this will put you in the develop module so you can then edit your images.

And then after you have the image just the way you like it, click on the "Library" tab up on the upper right hand part of the screen and then click on the export button on the lower left hand side of the screen. The change all of the drop downs to meet your expectations of how you what the new edited image saved, i.e. jpg, tif, how large, with watermark, etc. and you are done.

You have to click on the individual picture. It will come up full screen and then the Develop button will appear.

Mine says the same thing about me. And I didn't dispose of $$$ of items from the garage while I was in the hospital for knee surgery last year!

I recently started with LR5 and found Anthony Morganti's website to be a gold mine of info on LR5, Photoshop CC and Elements. He has his own website and is also on youtube. He starts out the LR training with developing your photos. His website is anthonymorganti.com

Ok, now i have a stupid question, i have my pics in Lightroom 5 on mac, how do i do anything with them? I cant seem to edit them.

It seemed like most of the responses I got to Lightroom or Adobe Bridge, most people liked Lightroom. Thanks, Bill

In Develop you don't actually edit the original image. Lightroom creates instruction overlays that are automatically saved to the catalog. There is no Save command in Develop. Any changes you make are applied as "on the fly" overlays to the image and will be available forever. If you want output containing the edits that you can upload to the internet or copy to a CD you have export the image as a jpeg or tiff file.

Try clicking anywhere at the bottom of the develop panel and then click on "basic."
All your development editing elements should appear and your sliders will also function. Good luck.

There are some great videos on the internet to walk you through this. I've had to use them myself at times. It's nice to see someone walk through it.

Victoria Brampton's (The Lightroom Queen) Quick start for LR 5 is quite good. I would suggest printing it out and reading along as you edit a photo. Also, I found Tim Grey's videos to be quite excellent. They are well organized and thorough but not too long. They are anywhere from 2 -10 minutes in length. His explanations are really excellent and easy to follow. And since each segment is not too long, I've watch them a couple of times. Also, you can stop the video instruction and take notes. scroll down to the bottom of page don't purchase just view.

THE best , free video tutorials I have seen.
Highly recommend you watch most if not all of these before going much further.
Most everything he covers is all valid for LR5 as well.
I am a new user as well, and watch each video clip that is pertinent to what I am about to do before I actually do it.
