I have no experience with portraits, but I think finding a less cluttered setting would allow people to focus on the cute girl :)

It all depends on what you are trying for: portrait, spirit of the girl, etc. Assuming you like the overall shot and composition, which features the girl outside, I would do only two things. Crop the asphalt out of the top--adds nothing. Bring up the light-dark contrasts in the girl while lowering the contrasts and overall brightness a bit in the background, which still conveys the spirit of the shot while bring out the main subject.

Her body looks twisted and the angle of her head/neck seem unnatural.
You might want to try to be at a lower level ( same height as her) and see if her body looks more natural that way.
Otherwise the lighting was fine.

Actually, I am concerned that the girl does not look right. The skin is strange, especially the hands. I agree on the background and would do that if not for the way the girl looks.

She did this as she was posing for her brother. She is a bit silly, at times. I thought there was something wrong with her skin coloring or texture...

Get down lower. Background is awful. Narrower depth of field so background is blurry -- subject will pop more.

Observe the background in the photo. It is has a lot of clutter that draws attention away from the sweet young little lady that is the main subject of the photograph for one thing ! I would like to see her in jeans in this scene ! I am sure their will be other helpful comments coming ! Thanks for sharing !!!

way to many questions about your expectations of how we should or could answer a nebulas question such as yours, but I will say one should not shoot down at the subject, lower your camera so your at least level with them, and your background should not distract from the subject, you have a large branch protruding from her shoulder, twigs growing out of her head, my eye wanders around a lot, and remember every expert was once a beginner...................practice practice practice...............there is a huge amount of advice on the internet and youtube videos, happy shooting, good luck and thanks for the trust in your query

Even after reading all that followed my suggestion, I am unconvinced that your pic is majorly flawed. I think it is an unboring pose that captures the spirit of the girl. Here's what I mean.

The pose is adorable. There is a blue color cast, which could easily be fixed, but there is also a lot of noise and that is affecting the skin tone. Others have mentioned getting down to the subject's level, which will help, and look for a less-cluttered background.

I'd have to agree something is just not right with the pose. The girl looks tilted to the left to me. The EXIF data says you were shooting a 55-300 at 55mm, f/5.6, 1/2000 second at ISO 5000, in manual with VR off. If you have a VR lens, why was VR off? Do you recall if these numbers are correct? If that ISO figure is correct, that would explain some of the softness. Shooting almost any zoom at it's upper, or lower limits, at almost wide open, will not get you the best results.
