In Photoshop Bridge under File you will find Open in Camera Raw. Is it as good as having the camera take the photo in Raw, that I don't know. I leave that for the techs to say.

Opening a jpg file in Camera Raw is neither the same as, nor as good as, shooting a raw file and opening it in Camera Raw.

Once an image is encoded in the jpg modality, color values are simplified (8 digital bits) and it is no longer possible to get back the original more complex color information (12 or 14 bits) in an original 16 bit image.

Don't know where you got the idea that you can edit in Adobe Bridge. You can't.

When you double click a thumbnail in Bridge it brings up other software like Camera Raw or Photoshop, and that's where you can edit.

Bridge is an indexing app that allows you to catalog and handle the mass of your photographs more affectively. Photoshop Elements is pretty much a combination of Bridge and Camera Raw, with a few more bells and whistles.

OK I stand corrected, but the only place that I can access camera RAW is in Bridge that's why I worded it that way.

What camera does not capture Raw?

JPG is not a capture format; it is a viewing format.

Cannon SX30 and SX40 to mention a couple.

WxGuesser, I have own Canon SX30 IS as back-up for using super zoom, up to 840mm. I assure you that Canon SX30 IS have no RAW. It can use JGP, TIFF only.

(I) would like to do single shot HDR.

No such process as single image HDR.

HDR requires at least two separately captured images, preferably an odd number to include over & underexposed as well as normal.

Single image manipulation is called Tone Mapping or "psuedo-HDR". Usually, a single image (preferably Raw) is duplicated, under-exposed and over-exposed, then merged with original image through HDR program.

You can get RAW out of the SX 40, not sure of the 30 though. Requires some 'firmware' tweaking.

DIGIC 4 Processor
In 2008, Canon introduced the new DIGIC 4 processor, used by the EOS 1100D/Rebel T3, EOS 500D/Rebel T1i, EOS 550D/Rebel T2i, EOS 600D/Rebel T3i, EOS 50D, EOS 60D, EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 1D X (for metering and AF only) . It is also used in newer cameras in Canon's PowerShot lines (A, G, S, SD, and SX).
Canon claims improvements such as:
Much faster image processing when compared to previous processors
Improved noise reduction in high-ISO images
Improved performance while handling larger 14-bit RAW images

Forgive me Nikonian. Try "Fuji Finepix S1 Pro. I mistranslated the heiroglyphics on my old camera! Lowest ISO 320. Highest 1600. No bulb feature either. (Nikon F Mount lenses) Still takes great pictures though. A shame they discontinued after the S5.

I had an S1 Pro it produced jpeg and Tiff- no raw

Great images in it's time.
I have two S5's- fantastic skin color!
Designed for the wedding & portrait market.
I use it for portraits in studio- jpegs- straight out of the camera.

Real shame they discontinued the line.

The camera process raw. But you can't get the raw out. It's been hamstrung by firmware. A way for Canon to differentiate between products. CDHK does work with the 30 to get the raw files.

Then I hope you have access to Adobe Bridge. I can't do RAW with my camera but I'm very pleased that Adobe Bridge lets me do nearly all the non-destructive edits to my JPEGs that I could do with RAW. And many of them are easier and faster than in Photo Shop.

I use Capture One 6 on many of my older Jpeg's without a problem and after using Photoshop & PS Elements I have to say it's abit faster!

Although I have to admit that Capture One 6 doesn't do the graphics-artist work like PS will.
