I agree with SmugMug.
They are changing their "referral program", both the current user and the new user get 20% off. If you decide to go with SmugMug, you might want to get a referral code from FABrauer. :-)

I used Smugmug. they just had a major overhaul. I have ye had time to go look and update my site. But I am comfortable with it and it's features. Probably wol dlke it more if I could look a the new updates. Have been on that site for 6 years now.
If you are the least technically savoy, build it yourself. Pretty easy to build a wordpress site.
Buy a domain $10.00 a year
Get it hosted
Add wordpress
If you can't do that then Zenfolio is cheeper and better then smugmug. thats the order I would do it in.
My own site
Zenfolio
Smugmug
I'm in the same boat -- trying to decide which site. I started with Smugmug and was quite happy until they upgraded the site -- it was so un-intuitive that I gave up and went to Zenfolio. They have a really nice blog feature. But I am hoping to be able to work through something I noticed last night -- they have prices for various ways to buy the photos on the right side of the screen -- I would not sell them for those prices so i need to find out if i can remove that or change how they are sold.

You just need to create a price list and apply that list to the gallery, or make it the default price list and it will apply to all galleries.

I use SmugMug. Although I'm not a professional, I use the professional membership because I have unlimited uploads and any size photo. The professional is $30/month, but you can get free, and one or two lower categories for less than $30.
Also, you can lock out galleries so that they're private and only accessed by a password.
