Getting to Photoshop with RAF files

I recently purchased a Fuji XE2 camera as a smaller and lightweight supplement to my weighty Nikon D800 and Nikkor lenses for use when travelling. Overall, I am pleased with the image quality of the XE2 and its lenses (I mostly use the 18-55mm) and the many Nikon-like options for control of the image within the camera. The problem is that raw images are saved as "RAF" files by this camera. Although Fuji software is provided for raw post processing, I prefer to use PS Elements which does not recognize these RAF files. Has anyone faced and solved this issue?

Yes, I process mine through Photoshop CS6, but can't do it with CS5.
You may need to update or upgrade your software.

You could just convert the RAF files to DNG and process them that way...something I have on my to do list.
You can find the DNG converter here.

Thanks for asking, I just did it myself and am getting some odd patterns that look like canvas when magnified. Not sure what's going on with that. Anyone want to take a stab at it?

Oh! I was expecting to see WWII pictures of airplanes of the "RAF" , the Royal Air Force. Guess I'm showing my age.

You need the latest Adobe camera raw plug-in (8.3) which has support for the XE2, but you will have to upgrade to Elements 12 to use that plug-in. That is the way Adobe works it.

Funny thing about Fuji cameras, though. Using the EXR modes, the in-camera processing of a jpg almost always results in a better image quality than if you process the raw file in anything other than the Silkypix software that it comes with.

I too was a little disappointed, photographs of aircraft either old or new always brightens my day. The attaches photo is of my two grandsons with the custom "T" shirts I had made for them. The CH-46 is a later version of what I flew in Nam.

No sense of humor? All I got were smiles, laughs, and compliments. But then, there probably weren't more than ten thousand people at the air show.

Ah, were they laughing with you or at you? Now your kids will have to go to School and explain where their children learned the new words, eh?
