I have to laugh at people who think that one party is any better than the other. In Washington it doesn't matter what side of the aisle they sit on -- most of them vote for whatever way benefits them the most they don't give a hoot for their constituents. Our biggest problem in Washington is not Democrat vs Republican -- it is honesty and integrity or should I say the lack thereof.

Well now, this should really encourage more people to want to work, NOT!!! I am going on a limb and saying that this will really affect those working poor who really look forward to their tax refund since it is the only means of savings for them. Wonderful plan, and hidden in a farm bill. Just lovely. End result more people not even wanting to work.

Sarge you are an Idiot do you think this bill was passed without the DemocRAT senate.

Collecting money that is due is a good idea for those that owe but not for people that are relatives, NO common sense in our government.

But it was your house of republicrats that put presented the bill.

If you think that's bad read the recent "Bill to improve Highways, and other things".
It's an all-in-one bill that allowed congressmen to insert their own agenda on anything they desired, and it passed.
If you read it you'll get sick.
If a politician didn't approve of 40% of the bills' content he voted for it anyway since he approved 60% of it.
Apparently congress no longer has to sneak unrelated items into some bill labeled "farm" other subjects.
They are too lazy to propose one bill at a time on a single subject, so now they add the phrase "and other things" to a bill to justify their proposals.
Hell of a way to run a railroad.

To think one of the few bills the GOPT passes punishes the middle class! I'm SHOCKED!

When are you TBaggers gonna learn. The GOP does not have your best interests at heart!

REad the article!

I read the article. It says that a "single line In the farm bill" created this situation two years ago. Are you saying that the Republicans passed the farm bill? Without Democrat assistance? The farm bill is punishing the middle class? Passing the farm bill is an attempt to screw the middle class?

You also are indicating a total lack of understanding of why your fellow Americans, who are fed up with the government, are called the Tea Party.

I'm a victim of this. My father died when I was 10. I started working when I was 15, good ethical thing to go.. Now SSA is coming after me for the money that was paid to my mother to support me because I worked in the sixties as a kid. What a load of crap. I'm fighting it through my senators office. They paid back what they withheld so far. I'll fight this until it costs them more to collect it. Oh, and like the article says, they don't even know my fathers SSN. Just payments from him to my mother for me were paid while I was working as a kid.

Question is who put that clause in the bill? What were the negotiations regarding the bill? In the end, it is the GOPT that controlls the money because the control the house.

So I guess when it comes to being an idiot you kinda take the cake!

When are they going to start collecting overpayments to welfare cheats---by going after their relatives. Now that would put a sizable chunk back into the coffers

This type of tucking something else onto a bill should not be allowed.

Bart, name calling is not necessary here especially as you haven't bothered to read the article linked to. To make it easy for you this is the gist of the problem.

When Grice was 4, back in 1960, her father died, leaving her mother with five children to raise. Until the kids turned 18, Sadie Grice got survivor benefits from Social Security to help feed and clothe them.

The aggressive effort to collect old debts started three years ago — the result of a single sentence tucked into the farm bill lifting the 10-year statute of limitations on old debts to Uncle Sam. A Social Security spokeswoman says the agency didn’t seek the change; ask Treasury. Treasury says it wasn’t us; try Congress.

Social Security officials told Grice that six people — Grice, her four siblings and her father’s first wife, whom she never knew — had received benefits under her father’s account.

This is one of the unplanned consequences when there are multiple children from multiple relationships combined as one family. Their best solution for help is to jump on the Government hand out train not thinking that one day a ticket will have to be paid for the benefit of riding the train.
As unfair as it may appear to be, the paying for the ticket has fallen on her shoulders. The reason her shoulders were chosen is not known, being one of five the fate of the remaining four is unknown there are many possibilities.

We as a nation of taxpayers scream and shout while jumping up and down with hearts and minds full of condemnation against Washington because monies owed to the Government are not repaid. This is simply another debt with one exception, it's being repaid, why the anger?

Truly a frightening turn of events. I am proud to be an American but disgusted with our government, all three branches of it and both political parties. We need to remove all of them from office and start from scratch!
