Here's an image I just made this AM 8:10 of the leader of the pack. Missed the tips of the top points, and focus is a little soft, but he'll be back in my yard agian soon for another try.

Beautiful, I love nature and I'm a hunter but I don't harvest anything unless it would go on my table.
Here's some elk I took a couple of years ago

Feel free to harvest any or all of these voracious buggers.

Colorado accepts old people, I'm happy to report.
Only 28 more days to Medicare for me. Moved here in '71 for law school. Only left once for 6 mos. to go to American Samoa.

Pat
Oh MY! How lucky can you be to have those magnificent animals in your back yard, in the daylight, letting you focus your camera, and pose for the picture! Great shots even if the tips are not in the pix.....
Then there are the rest of the pix, OH MY, you both have some incredible shots!
I am green, do I look green? I am soooooo green!
I thought Colorado used "western count". In the west that would be a 4 X 4, not a ten point. Were you that close or were you useing a long lens?

I counted the small nubs as points.
I used an 18-200 ED Nikkor so I was pretty close, maybe 15-20 feet. The light was quite low so I used a SB 800 dialed down one stop and set to the slow mode. Luckily, I had a tree upon which I could lean for a little stability- much needed, even with the VRII.
There was another big-racked son-of-a-gun in the herd who had lost one side of his antlers. Herd size was about 10 or so.
We now have about 18 inches of snow on the ground and they expect another 10-14. It's snowing HARD.
my shots of the Elk were taken in a small town in central PA
The name of the town is Benezette,PA You have to be careful but you can walk very close them..
