Also consider getting a remote microphone that you can either mount on the hot-shoe or on a bracket. This will cut down noise from the lens and touching the camera. The Rode Videomic is very good as is the Sennheiser MKE 400 Compact Video Camera Shotgun Microphone - B&H Photo $199.00.

WHOA, $200 for a microphone with 6" of audio tail....

That thing would HAVE to have a button on it that when pushed would cause legs to fall out the bottom of the microphone, music would have to start and it would want to dance with me!

For shooting good sound for videos, it's worth every penny. And an extension cord is $12.

Though I'm looking at a mixer to get even better quality sound. And because the 70D doesn't have a headphone socket so I can monitor while recording.

I'm actually considering a separate sound recorder and doing sync sound in edit.

Luckily we now don't have to jump through the hoops these guys had to go through - http://vimeo.com/50533709.

Hummm...maybe I should return to Costco, and go through Amazon. I saw that on Amazon when I was researching, but just being able to go pick it up rated high on my list. I have Prime, though, so I can get it quickly with little to no shipping cost. Should I do it so I get the STM lens?

I don't really worry about sound because I usually put my horse videos to music anyway. I'll hold off on the mike for now. Thanks for the info, though!

True statement, IF is was an STM lens but is not. The 18-55 is STM but the 55-250 is IS but not STM and has a plastic mounting ring.

Still a good lens. I got lots of good photos with mine before I sold it.

In order to get the best results from the video abilities of the 70D the STM lenses are the ones you need.

Costco won't like u for returning it BUT . . .

The 70d is the same, u probably don't need the bag or the memory card, the 18-55 is an STM lens but the 18-135 is far more able to be your main do-everything always on your camera lens and the 55-250 is a barebones kit lens with a plastic mounting ring and is not STM. I had that lens and used it rarely - have not missed it since I sold it.

For $50 more you get the same camera with a better lens and being Prime you can have it tomorrow for $4. You give up a camera bag, a memory card and a ~~ 55-250mm lens.

I too am an impulse buyer but Amazon's Prime and $4 next day delivery has assuaged me many times.

Maybe Costco will match the Amazon deal.

I am shopping for a camera to shoot stills and video of horseback events. My subjects are far away from me, sometimes only a few feet but sometimes off in a field, and they are moving fast. I have always owned Canon cameras, so I have some lenses to use. I am looking at either the T5i or the 60D for my new purchase. I want to stay under $1500. Advice?

I also own a 60D and it is an awesome camera. I would choose the T5i only if it had better video than the 60D. Other than that, the choice for me would be the 60D

I just sold my 60d in favor of FF, and I just loved it for shooting action. I didn't shoot video much because it didn't have the constant focus when your subject moved. The 70d has this and from what I'm told, it's awesome. The D bodies are sized Inbetween the rebel and MkD series. Just perfect in my opinion. The 70D has more focus points as we'll. I'd go with the 70D. It's a camera you can grow into.

Thanks for that tip! I am so hoping you are recalling correctly. I will be super excited!

Everyone-I went to Sam's this afternoon. They were SOLD OUT of this great deal on the 70D. So, I moved on to Costco. They have the same sale going on. I've got my 70D now, and my 70D for Dummies book is on its way!

You will love the touch screen on the 70D

To quote Redpepper, I moved up to the 70D for the reasons he mentioned, and I never looked back. I still have the 60D as a backup

18-135 IS STM is a great lens for the 70D. I got one from 42 St. Photo in a White Box for 329.00. This lens came with a full USA warranty. Be careful however, as some white boxes are grey market and don't have the USA warranty. Also when dealing with 42 St. Photo, you will have to be firm is saying no to the extras they might try to sell you. They get pretty aggressive in trying to tell you what you need.

On Amazon I have also seen this lens advertised in a white box for 379.00. Also with USA Warranty.

Where did you sell all that stuff? I have some unused Canon equipment like a 40D, a 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 IS lens, and an 18-55 mm IS lens that I no longer need.

I now use a Canon 60D which felt right to me in my hands versus a smaller Rebel and a larger 7D with the same sensor and thus IQ. The articulated screen was a big plus as it permits me to compose low on a tripod without crawling on the ground. The attached shot illustrates the benefit.

The 70D has this screen as well while the 7D does not and is much heavier. The 70D will be more expensive than the older 60D and reputedly is a better alternative for video. The 60D has video but I never use it.
