Recently i have gotten myself really into photography and creating videos. I have started looking into which kind of camera i could get. I currently only have a cannon powershot. Really any information and opinions would help me. Also any suggestions on where i might be able to find one for a bit cheaper than normal. :D thanks for any help i can get!

This may not be of much help, however, most, if not all, modern dslr cameras can shoot video. The Caon 7d was used used to shoot film for major film companies when it first appeared.
As for the photography side, it depends on what you want to shoot and your budget. Remember to, that you will probably require more than one lens, depending on what you shoot.
Not knowing where you are, I cannot recommend where to buy.
I would suggest though, that you try to find an audio visual club, where you can see what gear others are using.
It actually does help thank you. I dont know much as it is so THANKS!

Great start; many YouTubers have made a successful go of it! The KISS principle always works. Continue with your Cannon; meanwhile click on the
"Seach" function above. Enter the camera/subject you're interested in and dozens of threads will be listed. Click on any that are of interest. In short order, you'll be immersed in the experiences of those that have gone before.
The money issue will resolve itself the longer your dreams and reality flow together.
Welcome to the Hog!!
you might want to consider cameras on the secondary market and go with a Canon or Nikon from 2010 onwards.
there is really not much image quality advantage in buying a current model; that is if you don't need the gadgets like wi-fi, face recognition, endless filters (few of which anyone uses) and video (notwithstanding the fact theses digital imaging devices are not made for video in the first place).
good luck with your search and image making!
This is the 2nd post I've read of yours today and still have no clue what your budget is!! You say a bit cheaper than "Normal", what does that even mean?? If you do a ton of video look at buying a video camera and go with a bridge camera for your still shots. I don't even know why camera makers put video in DSLRs other than to make people think they're getting a deal---no deal when videos are crap. Just my opinion of DSLR videos. Good luck on your search.......

A good point...you need to really ask yourself what you want...I have a Nikon D3200, my wife has a bridge Canon SX50... Both will shoot 1080 video...Her little camera will go out to equivalent 1200mm and shoot video in slo mo...If you put I gun to my head I couldn't tell you if the 3200 will shoot in slow motion...the canon has 12mp and the Nikon has 24mp...Her sensor will heat up faster than mine and limit you to 10 or 15 minute videos...on my camera, the video will eat up a 32 gig card a lot faster
And the list goes on and on...
Both take exceptional pictures...but both have "family video" capabilities...
So you really do need to decide what you want to do with a camera...and then ask the question your asking.
Both of our cameras are within $250 of each other.
You'll get good advice here...folks on this sight really want you to love photography like they do...sometimes the critiques can be a little harsh...just grin and bear it...and learn.

The Canon 70D is one of, if not the best DSLR's on the market today for shooting video. It has the most advanced focus system of any DSLR for video. It is also an excellent still photo camera. What is your budget? The 70D camera body goes for about $1,100, I believe. Plus lenses. Are you willing to look at used or refurbished cameras? Most modern DSLR's take good video and there are some good deals available if you have a tight budget and don't have to go with new.
There are at least two "modern" DSLRs which do not deal with video, Sigma and Nikon's new fancy, pseudo retro Df. There are a lot of shooters who would like to see Nikon and/or Canon come out with a full frame DSLR w/o video capability and a lower price for its
omission.

Used is probably going to be the best route for me to go. Im undecided about what im willing to spend. I wanted to get opinions before i create a budget for myself

Do you have a photo store near you? I mean a *real* store, with real photographers? That may be your best bet, and chances are they'll have used equipment, too.
If not, try to find a store where you can actually get your hands on several models. You'd be surprised how much ergonomics plays into the final decision.
Finally, you might check out sites like KEH (
http://www.keh.com/camera?s=1) that sell used as well as new equipment.
Generally Canon is considered better for videos than Nikon. I think that is true, despite being a Nikon user. There are also many other brands that may be of interest for you. Sony is more affordable than Canon and some claim it to be good for videos. I have not checked them out.
