Yep, can you believe it? It was just after an 8 inch snowfall. The yellow Lab was standing about 10-12 feet away from the bedroom window (a single story ranch) and I just slid the window and screen open and took the shot. The black one was standing about 30 feet behind her eating snow, and I framed the shot, clucked at her and took the shot when she raised her head and looked straight at me. Believe me, these were both very quick moments in time (as most dog photography is...)
I especially like the black one.

WOW- those labs are gorgeous. You really captured their spirit.
So here are a few of my faves from the waterpark. As said earlier, when they are romping around, burning energy, focusing on play, it's really fun to try to capture those moments. I've never taken my zoom lens, but after seeing the "intimate" portraits up top, I may rethink that strategy next year!
(These were taken with my old point and shoot, so please excuse the poor quality- these were also taken before I had much P.P. practice under my belt...)

dtparker, I'd love to see the bottom photo cropped for just his face, maybe framed by his front legs, to enhance the way the sunlight is hitting his/her face! The eyes have it!
I've had lots of success with animals in just letting them relax while I set up camera on tripod. I set up the shot and use a remote shutter release to capture them.
