A photo my son sent me from Afghanistan. Taken with a little point and shoot camera I gave him. I thought it was a perfect metaphor for the conflict.

Both young men are mirror images of each other, turban, staff, gear, looking at each other through the haze of 5000 years of history: one in the 21st century, the other could be Abraham, journeying out of the Land of Ur.

It is too bad he did not get the full length of the soldier including the boots - it would have made a better composition, but this was a grab shot on patrol. Technically, it is quite good exposure and sharpness, and the story telling is quite poignant.

This is a powerful image. I would think about shopping this image to some stock agency. In years gone by, this is the sort of image that one would find in Life, Look and Smithsonian magazines.

You might consider making this into a poster, with the right caption, and you just might be surprised how many would sell.

I send my prayers for your son's safe return, from a two tour combat vet in Viet Nam. . .

If there'd been a camel in the frame, it could be used to drive us back to the stone age. Great capture!

I think sheep and cattle were the biblical animals of the stone age to bronze age Bible. We read in Genesis that Laban made a deal with his son-in-law, Jacob, that if Jacob would tend his flocks, Jacob could keep all the spotted cattle for himself. The fellow in the photo could be Jacob himself, walking right out of a page of Genesis.

Great photo and title. It is little wonder that we don't think the same way as those living so far in the past.

Neat...Photo...Thanks so much for sharing..

Most of all and foremost - Please Thank Him and his Military Brother's for serving our Nation, Their Bravery and Protecting my Freedoms and those in this World who truly want Freedom.

As a Proud American and Veteran, I honor those serving our Nation.

I seldom agree with our Politicians who often make stupid decisions that too often place our Troops into harms way.

I pray Your Son, and his brother's return home safely to the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Blessings, peace and comfort to You and your Family during this trying time while he is away from you and serving our Nation.
